ProCor conducted a survey of its subscribers to obtain feedback and determine how to better disseminate its cardiovascular health content globally. The survey received 97 responses. Most respondents were physicians or public health professionals doing work with a global focus, particularly in Africa. Respondents expressed interest in additional topics like lifestyle modification, diabetes, and strategies for primary prevention. They also showed interest in expanding delivery methods to include social media and smartphone applications. The conclusion was that ProCor's audience is receptive to growth, expansion into new topics, and alternative formats for content delivery.

Whilst most people vaccinate, some groups or individuals delay or refuse vaccines due to concerns about safety, whether real or perceived, and concerns about information (including mis-information or mis-trust in information). Public concerns about vaccines have occurred around the world, spreading quickly and sometimes leading to vaccine refusals and disease outbreaks.
The presentation will explore case studies on non-vaccination of measles containing vaccine (MCV) and concerns around HPV vaccine globally. This talk will attempt to address the question of how misinformation can undermine public health, exploring selective exposure, selective perception and the issue of multiple realities.

Expo is the most significant annual health and social care event in the calendar, uniting more NHS and care leaders, commissioners, clinicians, voluntary sector partners, innovators and media than any other health and care event.
Expo 15 returned to Manchester and was hosted once again by NHS England. Around 5000 people a day from health and care, the voluntary sector, local government, and industry joined together at Manchester Central Convention Centre for two packed days of speakers, workshops, exhibitions and professional development.
This year, Expo was more relevant and engaging than ever before, happening within the first 100 days of the new Government, and almost 12 months after the publication of the NHS Five Year Forward View. It was also a great opportunity to check on and learn from the progress of Greater Manchester as the area prepares to take over a £6 billion devolved health and social care budget, pledging to integrate hospital, community, primary and social care and vastly improve health and well-being.

Carolyn Der Vartanian, (former) Clinical Excellence Commission
Carolyn Der Vartanian was previously the program manager for Blood Watch and the Clinical Excellence Commission from 2006 to 2013. She won a scholarship to study social media use in healthcare. Her study tour included conferences in London, Dublin, Rochester, and Washington DC. She found that social media is important for healthcare but requires training staff, policies, and engagement. At the Clinical Excellence Commission, she helped establish social media use and training. She has since advocated for social media use in healthcare through conferences, presentations, and online discussions.

GPs' view of integration in North West London
GPs in North West London reported that patients experience fragmented care and that providers do not work together effectively. Improving relationships across sectors like mental health, community services, and social care was seen as important. However, GPs identified high workloads and lack of support for new ways of working as barriers. Protected time for multi-disciplinary meetings and shared IT systems were suggested to help overcome barriers and allow GPs to better coordinate care. While the Whole Systems Integrated Care program was known, perceptions varied and less than half of GPs thought its goals of improving quality and financial sustainability could be achieved through integration.

Answering your patrons’ health questions can be daunting. It requires expertise and being able to break through literacy and language barriers. However, as the past two years have shown us, libraries’ involvement in health education has never been more important than it is today. As a Catalysts for Community Health Fellows through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and The University of Missouri-Columbia, we’ve spent the last two years developing knowledge of community health resources for Nebraska public libraries and researching ways to support public library staff with health reference and education to their communities.
With the guidance of Region 3 of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we’ve developed a tool-kit for Nebraska public libraries containing free health resources for you and your library. These include posters, brochures, social media slides, tutorials, and multi-lingual health information. In addition, the tool-kit expands on further training for your staff, funding opportunities, and how to tap in to regional medical librarians and community health data to continue to support your patrons’ health needs. We’re excited to share this tool-kit with all of you and make it freely available to webinar participants to use and share as they wish.

Answering your patrons’ health questions can be daunting. It requires expertise and being able to break through literacy and language barriers. However, as the past two years have shown us, libraries’ involvement in health education has never been more important than it is today. As a Catalysts for Community Health Fellows through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and The University of Missouri-Columbia, we’ve spent the last two years developing knowledge of community health resources for Nebraska public libraries and researching ways to support public library staff with health reference and education to their communities.
With the guidance of Region 3 of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we’ve developed a tool-kit for Nebraska public libraries containing free health resources for you and your library. These include posters, brochures, social media slides, tutorials, and multi-lingual health information. In addition, the tool-kit expands on further training for your staff, funding opportunities, and how to tap in to regional medical librarians and community health data to continue to support your patrons’ health needs. We’re excited to share this tool-kit with all of you and make it freely available to webinar participants to use and share as they wish.

Public Health professionals communicate with a variety of audiences in their daily work. While reasonably well-accepted that special consideration be given to low-literate health care consumers in clinical settings, less emphasis has been given to applying health literacy in diverse sectors of public health. Poor health literacy is not limited to those with language or reading skill barriers - only 12% of Americans understand the health information they receive.
As public health professionals we have a responsibility to understand the health literacy barriers. This presentation will provide tips and resources where public health professionals can make a difference in increasing the success of their communication efforts.
While one flu season can pass mildly and with minimal activity, another may hit the country early and hard. CDC health communicators work with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop messages for a variety of audiences, employing different types of media for effective reach. Due to unforeseen variables, the 2012-2013 flu season posed specific challenges. This presentation will highlight some of those challenges, showcase strategies and messaging used, and preview what’s to come for the 2013-2014 season.

The key principle is that those experiencing an issue understand it best, so solutions developed with their input are likely most effective. Researchers must share power with communities and accept them as partners in all stages of the research process. This challenges researchers accustomed to serving communities in a top-down manner.

One of the most difficult tasks confronting the beginner is to select a researchable problem. More often than not, the newcomer has a proclivity to tackle an exotic issue, thus making the problem either too broad or too narrow in scope. Some factors that should be involved in the ultimate selection are listed here (Bailey, 1994):
1. Interest: The researcher should be interested in pursuing the problem area. The problem should be related to the background and career interests of the student, and in pursuing the problem the student should develop useful skills for the future.
2. Operability: The nature of the problem should be such that the researcher has both the resources and the time available to complete the subject.
3. Scope: While the research problem should not attempt to solve all the health dilemmas of the world, neither should it be so small as to negate the variables necessary for adequate results.
4. Theoretical and practical values: The research should contribute to the health field, perhaps through publication, and be of benefit to health practitioners.
5. Health paradigm: This is the school of thought or model employed by the researcher as discussed in an earlier chapter (Chapter 1).
6. Values of the researcher: The myth of value-free research is just that, a myth. The student of research should be aware that in addition to being unstable, values may prejudice the research effort to the degree that all objectivity is lost. Note that even the selection of a problem is value-laden.
7. Research methodology: Every researcher has a philosophy of research that affects procedure. Thus, the student must be certain that hypotheses are well written and that appropriate criteria are used to interpret the data to reach conclusions.
8. Reactivity: The method of data collection should be scrutinized for reactivity. That is, a reactive technique brings about a reaction on the part of those being studied in a way that affects that data. The reactive effect is commonly labeled the “Hawthorne effect” from the study of the Hawthorne Plant of the Western Electric Company in Chicago, where it was found that worker productivity increased simply because the personnel were being observed.
9. Unit of analysis: In health research, the unit of analysis may be an individual (such as the health habits of a single anorexic patient) or an entire population (patterns among the hospital anorexic population). The researcher must ascertain which is most appropriate and whether resources are available to collect data.
10. Time frame: This is particularly important to the student because only a limited amount of time is usually available. In a cross-sectional study aparticular population is involved at a single point in time; in a longitudinal time frame, data are gathered over an extended period of time (such as months or years).
11. Budget: To ensure that your proposal is feasible, write up a budget for expensive items. These items m.

This document summarizes a project to teach senior citizens computer and internet skills to access health information online. The project partnered with a senior center to provide an 8-week computer training class onsite. Classes covered basic computer use, email, evaluating health websites, and using specific resources like MedlinePlus. Having the class onsite and a low student-teacher ratio helped ensure students' individual needs were met. While there were challenges like temporary internet outages, most students reported learning skills and feeling more confident using the internet for health information after completing the course. The project concluded that bringing educational resources directly to seniors was an effective way to teach internet skills and promote health information literacy.

The Finance, Audit, and Administration Committee (FAAC) reported to the PCORI Board of Governors. The FAAC recommended three nominees for the SCCOI: Dr. Bernard Lo, Arthur Levin, and Annette Bar-Cohen. The FAAC also recommended Harris Beach PLLC to serve as legal counsel to the SCCOI. In addition, the FAAC discussed GAO oversight and compliance, financial statement audits, and managing PCORI's cash flow.
