CHALLENGES AND ISSUES WITH ID&T
The field of educational technology deals with design, development,
implementation and evaluation of learning and teaching processes (Alkan &
Kurt, 1998). That all sounds awesome... Until we experience the issues
that comes with technology. Some of these we will discuss in the following
slides.
 Unreliable Software
 Lack of professional training
 Student's misuse of technology
 Choosing the right design model
 Staying current with technology
 Creating Programs for all users
 Wear and tear of equipment
 Difficulties with integrating technology into existing systems
Bad or Inadequate Training
If users of instructional technology are not
appropriately trained on how to use the
technology. They will be met with
frustration, and lack of motivation to use
the technology. They will also lose time and
may fall behind on their work.
Take teachers for example. If they are not
provided effective professional development
on new technologies; they will not be
capable of using it to its full potential
Additionally, If a teacher’s school does not
possess adequate computers and fast internet
connection, the implementation of
educational technology is not feasible.
Challenges of Technology in the Classroom
While technology has so many positive uses in the
classroom. There is a drawback to the use of
technology. In many cases, the introduction of
technology comes with a risk, especially when it is not
appropriately utilized.
Many teachers are still struggling with integrating it in
their classrooms and questioning if doing so is the
right move for them.
Common challenges and concerns teachers experience
when integrating technology and digital media in the
classroom include:
1.Students misusing technology
2.Teacher knowledge and professional development
3.Keeping students safe online
4.Cost of new technology
5.Keeping up with changes
Catering to all users
As technology advances, designers
are challenged with developing
learning that considers and
appeals to all users, including
those who have varying degrees of
connectivity, who experience
differing levels of disability or
ability, and who come from
diverse cultures.
Designing and Developing Effective E-
Learning Courses
Keeping learners focused and engaged is
one of the challenges of instructional
designers. They are charged with making
sure that the content matches the learner
When learning technologies are
introduced, attention often is paid to
the technology implementation, while the
actual design of appropriate content is
left with too little time and budget to
create a successful program.
