This document discusses 7 muscles of the neck. It describes the origin, insertion, nerve supply and action of 3 muscles: the vertebral muscle, longus colli muscle, and iliocostalis muscle. The vertebral muscle originates on cervical vertebrae and inserts on the occipital bone. It is innervated by the suboccipital nerve and flexes the head. The longus colli originates on the anterior atlas and inserts on the occipital bone, flexing the head. The iliocostalis originates along the vertebral column and sacrum, extending and laterally flexing the vertebral column.
