Sterno-Cleidomastoid muscle
• Origin: Manubrium and medial
portion of the clavicle
• Insertion: Mastoid process of the
Temporal bone superior nuchal line
• Action: On fixation of the
insertion,the muscle Act as accessory
muscle of inspiration
Sterno-Cleidomastoid muscle
Platysma muscle
•Origin: Deep fascia of the upper part
Thorax
•Insertion: Lower boarder of the mandible
•Action: Depression of the mandible
• Nerve supply Cervucle branch of facial
Nerve
Platysma muscle
Trapezius muscle
•Origin: Medial third of superior
nuchal line,external occipital
protuberance,ligamentum,nuchae,7th
cervical spine all the thoracic spines.
•Insertion: Lateral third of clavicle,
acromion process of spine of scapula.
•Action:
•musles extend the neck
• upper fibres of one side lateral flex
the neck.
• Nerve supply: Spinal accessory nerve
motor and C3,4 propriocieptive.
Trapezius muscle
Splenius capitis muscle
•Origin:
1) Upper four thoracic spine.
2) Lowe part of ligamentum nuchae.
•Insertion: Mastroid process and Outer
parts of superior nuchal line.
•Action: Extension of the neck.
•Nerve supply: Segmental innervation of
spinal nerves.
Splenius capitis muscle
Middle scalene Muscle
•Origin: Transverse process of lower six
Cervucle vertebrae (2-7).
•Insertion: Upper surface of the first
rib.
•Action: Elevation of the first rib and
lateral flixation of the neck.
•Nerve supply: Segmental from the
ventral Rami of cervical nerve.
Middle scalene muscle
Scalenus anterior muscle
•Origin: transverse process of thypical
cervical vertebrae (3-6).
•Insertion: Scalene tubercle of the first
rib
•Action: Elevation of first rib and lateral
flexion the neck
•Nerve supply: Segmental From the
ventral rami of 4th,5th
and 6th
cervical
nerves.
Scalenus anterior muscle
Levator scapula muscle
•Origin: transverse process of upper
four cervical vertebrae
•Insertion: Upper part of medial border
of scapula
•Action: Elevation of scapula
•Nerves supply: C3,4 and dorsal scapula
nerve (C5).
Levator scapula muscle
Longus capitis muscule
•Origin: Anterior tubercle of transverse
process of C3,C6.
•Insertion: Basilar part of occipital bone.
•Innervation: Anterior Rami of spinal
nerve C1-C3.
•Action: Bilateral contraction – head
flexion;
Unilateral contraction – head
rotation.
•Blood supply: Ascending cervical artery
and the inferior thyroid artery.
Longus colli muscle
•Origin: Transverse processes of C5 To T3
•Insertion: Anterior arch of the atlas
•Action: Flexes the neck and head
•Innervation: Anterior Rami of spinal
nerve C2-C6
•Blood supply: Branches of the
vertebral,ascending pharyngeal and
inferior thyroid arteries
Mylohyoid muscle
•Origin: Mylohyoid line ( mandilble.
•Insertion : body of hyoid bone and
median ridge.
•Action: raises oral cavity
floor.elevates hyoid,elevates tongue,
depresses mandible.
•Nerve supply: mylohyoid nerve, from
inferior alveolar branch of mandibular
nerve.
Thyrohyoid Muscle
•Origin: Angles of thyroid cartilage and
adjacent cricothyroid ligament.
•Insertion: Anterolateral surface of
arytenoid cartilage
• Innervation: Inferior laryngeal nerve(of
recurrent laryngeal nerve(CN X)
•Action: Draws arytenoid cartilage
anteriorly,relaxes vocal ligament.
•Blood supply: Laryngeal branches of
superior and inferior thyroid arteries
