Abstract
A novel coronavirus was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in China on 31 December 2019. The WHO named the disease COVID-19 on
11 February 2020. As of 26 February 2020, the disease has been detected on all continents, except for Antarctica. Daily updates on COVID-19 since early
February 2020 have made headline news worldwide for much of 2020. This poster gives information about spread and prevention of novel coronavirus.
How does COVID-19 spread?
• COVID-19 spreads mainly by droplets produced as a
result of coughing or sneezing of a COVID-19
infected person. This can happen in two ways:
 Direct close contact: one can get the infection by
being in close contact with COVID-19 patients (within
one Metre of the infected person), especially if they do
not cover their face when coughing or sneezing.
 Indirect contact: the droplets survive on surfaces and
clothes for many days. Therefore, touching any such
infected surface or cloth and then touching one’s mouth,
nose or eyes can transmit the disease.
 The incubation period of COVID 19 (time between
getting the infection and showing symptoms) is 1 to 14
days.
 Some people with the infection, but without any serious
symptoms can also spread the disease.
Key messages to spread for prevention of COVID-19
1. How to avoid getting COVID-19 or spreading it?
a) Practice Social Distancing:
 Avoid gatherings such as melas, haats, gatherings in
religious places, social functions etc.
 Maintain a safe distance of at least one Metre between
you and other people when in public places, especially if
they are having symptoms such as cough, fever etc. to
avoid direct droplet contact.
 Stay at home as much as possible.
 Avoid physical contact like handshakes, hand holding or
hugs.
 Avoid touching surfaces such as table tops, chairs, door
handles etc.
b) Practice good hygiene
 Wash your hands frequently using soap and water:
 After coming home from outside or meeting other people
especially if they are ill.
 After having touched your face, coughing or sneezing.
 Before and after using toilet, cleaning.
 Before preparing food, eating or feeding children.
Prevention is better than cure!
 Is rightly said adage fits in the pandemic situation of
Covid-19. Till the date there is no full-proof treatment
option is available for novel coronavirus so prevention is
its best form to remain uninfected by it.
 To Protect yourself and others around you by knowing the
facts and taking appropriate precautions.
 Follow advice provided by your local public health
agency.
 To prevent the spread of COVID-19 one shall take care
of Following Precautions:
• Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an
alcohol-based hand rub.
• Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or
sneezing.
• Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
• Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a
tissue when you cough or sneeze.
• Stay home if you feel unwell.
• If you have a fever, a cough, and difficulty breathing,
seek medical attention. Call in advance.
• Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Conclusion
It cannot be over-emphasized that a truly effective international preparedness and response coordination mechanism cannot be managed
nationally. Global cooperation, collaboration and investment are necessary to ensure a safer future. This means a multisectoral approach
to managing the problem of global disease that includes governments, industry, public and private financiers, academia, international
organizations and civil society, all of whom have responsibilities for building global public health security. In achieving the highest level
of global public health security possible, it is important that each sector recognizes its global responsibility.
