A debate competition will be held on March 5, 2008 at the Jagan Institute of Management Studies in Rohini, New Delhi on the topic "Parents are always right". The competition is open to undergraduate students from any discipline, with each college or institute allowed to submit only one team of two students to argue for and against the motion. Prizes worth Rs. 40,000 will be awarded, including Rs. 15,000 for first place and Rs. 7,500 for the best individual speaker. The registration deadline is September 5, 2011 and interested participants should contact the listed faculty or student coordinators.
The document discusses academic pressure on parents, faculty, and students. Parents feel pressure from relatives comparing children, financial issues, children not listening, and overexpectations. Faculty face pressure from institutions expecting high results, needing to constantly update subjects, difficult student behavior, and excessive workload. Students procrastinate, lack subject interest, have family/friend issues, and distractions that cause last-minute pressure. Reducing pressure requires understanding from all parties in the academic relationship.
Jakarta is facing major infrastructure challenges due to urbanization, development, informal housing, deforestation, rubbish dumping, climate change, land subsidence, and costs of aid. Rapid urbanization and new high-rise and mall development have increased impervious surfaces and weight on alluvial soils, contributing to flooding and land subsidence. Informal housing settlements on river banks are vulnerable to floods, while deforestation and groundwater pumping have increased runoff and silt in river systems. Dumping rubbish in waterways and climate change have further exacerbated flooding risks. These issues have high costs and reduce funding for proactive measures.
The SERVE system aims to provide a happy, stress-free schooling experience for students through collaborative learning, minimizing exams fear and corrections, revealing talents, and guaranteeing that students and others will know all subjects without tuition fees. The SERVE approach is available through books and by inviting SERVE representatives to schools to establish a learning environment focused on empowerment, rights, vision, fun and play rather than stress.
This document discusses childhood stress, including physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms of stress in children. It identifies common causes of stress such as divorce, moving, death, activity overload, and peer pressure. The document provides recommendations for how parents can help children cope with stress through professional help, asking questions, spending quality time together, encouraging physical activity, and listening. It also suggests actions children can take to relieve their own stress, such as talking about problems, relaxing, exercising, having realistic expectations, self-love, and asking for help.
The document discusses how children of different ages cope with stress. For infants, coping is dominated by behavioral rather than cognitive responses due to their limited executive functioning. Caregiver sensitivity and secure attachment are essential for healthy development and better coping. As children age into toddlerhood and preschool, their ability to regulate emotions and use problem-focused coping strategies develops slowly. During middle childhood, children can verbalize feelings and seek social support outside the family, with girls doing so more than boys. In adolescence, peers and siblings become important sources of support while parents still influence coping strategies. The family environment plays a key role in children's coping abilities at all stages.

The syllabus is a small place to start bringing students and faculty members back together... If students could be persuaded that we are really interested in their understanding the materials we offer, that we support their efforts to master it, and that we take their intellectual struggles seriously, they might respond by becoming involved in our courses, by trying to live up to our expectations, and by appreciating our concern.
- Rubin, “Professors, Students, and the Syllabus,” Chronicle of Higher Education
Academic pressure can come from parents, faculty, and students' own perceptions. Parents may push children to excel and pursue high-paying careers, causing stress. Faculty and institutions also put pressure on students and teachers to get good grades and results, overloading them with other responsibilities. Students feel pressure from a fear of failure, time management issues, and wanting high grades, prioritizing scores over learning. This pressure can negatively impact students' mental health, behavior, and view of education. Communication and setting reasonable goals may help reduce undue academic stress.

People are pulled to cities by the availability of infrastructure, jobs, education, healthcare and entertainment. They are pushed from rural areas due to lack of these resources and facilities. However, rapid urbanization leads to problems like overcrowding, unemployment, increased crime rates, pollution, and the development of slums. These issues can be addressed by controlling urban population growth and developing rural communities and infrastructure to discourage migration.

Pressure put on children in order to do well in their studies
1. Pressure put on Children in Order to do well in their Studies
Nowadays, we always hear about children being under pressure like it’s a common
thing for the whole society. Their time is filled with the daily grind of activities and things
in order for them to excel in their studies. We’re facing this problem mainly because the
pressure from the parents and also teachers, the educational system as well as the
child’s own disability to divide their time properly.
Firstly, pressure from the parents and teachers. It’s a lie if you say parents don’t want
their children to succeed. All parents would want their children to succeed and make
them proud but unfortunately, they put on high expectations and push their children to
achieve certain goals. The children would end up in a depression because the parents
already planted in their mind if they don’t achieve the goals, they’re an embarrassment
and also disappointment to the parents and they will also feel as if they have no time for
themselves as the activities that the parents signed up for them consume all of their
time in order to excel academic wise.
A similar case with teachers – in a way they feel obliged to make sure that you excel
because they’re the one who teaches you. If the students fail, they would feel as if they
also failed to be a teacher and the parents would end up blaming them for not teaching
their children properly. Parents and teachers should be more understanding towards
what their children and students are going through.
2. Education system also plays a huge role that causes this problem. Education system
in most countries are too exam oriented that the students strive to get A’s rather than
gaining the knowledge itself. Sure, they could memorize everything and get A pluses for
all subject but is that all? What about the experience? The hands-on? The students will
not be given enough exposure and in the end, they’ll only succeed in school based on
exams and grades because they don’t have enough experience and exposure. They will
be afraid to think out of the box, to be creative and to think of other solutions and most
of all they’re afraid to make mistakes yet we all know that mistake is the best teacher. In
the long run, what’s the point of getting an A if the journey was a monotonous path of
remembering formulas and memorizing facts?
Apart from parents, teachers and education system, the children themselves are also
the main reason to this problem. Some children have so much going on in their
timetable till they couldn’t divide and organize their time properly. They over estimate
their own capability. This causes a lot of pressure because of the lack of time
organization. It is good to set goals in your life but we should know our own limits and
don’t push ourselves up to the pressure point as it is very unhealthy physically and
mentally.
3. In conclusion, to avoid this problem, the parents and teachers should be more
understanding. The goals should be reasonable with the children’s capability. The time
management also is important to avoid pressure and depression.
