Introduction to the breakout sessions & case studies presentationsEUPATI
The document discusses the implementation of EUPATI in Italy. It notes that the project is receiving support from the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking under grant agreement n° 115334, which is funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme and EFPIA companies. It introduces representatives from the Italian National Leadership Team, including the NLT Chairman, patient organization representatives, an academia representative, and an industry representative. It discusses overcoming hurdles to implement the strategy in a combination of central and local strategies.
The document discusses water management and the hydrologic cycle. It describes how water evaporates from oceans, rises through the atmosphere, condenses to form clouds, and falls as precipitation over land and into streams, underground, or absorbed by plants. It also discusses water contamination from biological, chemical, and industrial sources, as well as problems like depletion of water tables, pollution, and scarcity. The Philippine Clean Water Act aims to protect water bodies from pollution through multi-sectoral cooperation and enforcement.
European Technology Platform on Food for Life The vision for 2020 and beyondCláudio Carneiro
The European Technology Platform on Food for Life outlines a vision for the European agro-food industry through 2020 and beyond. Key points:
1) The agro-food industry is the largest manufacturing sector in Europe, but its competitiveness is at risk without increased innovation to meet changing consumer needs and global competition.
2) Lifestyles are changing, with increasing rates of lifestyle-related diseases that will burden health systems without action. The industry recognizes its responsibility to provide healthy, convenient options.
3) A coherent research strategy is needed to address challenges in food and health, quality, safety, sustainability, and consumer trends through initiatives in these areas supported by communication and training.
4) Bringing

This document provides an overview and summary of the state of biotechnology in Europe from 2014-2015. It discusses that 2014 was an exceptional year for investment in European biotech, with almost 2.5 billion euros invested and 15 companies going public. However, it notes there remains a question mark over Europe as the regulatory framework is less predictable than other regions and the EU needs to do more to ensure access to biotech products. The document advocates that European leaders must address remaining issues to ensure biotech can deliver on its potential for growth, jobs and societal solutions in Europe.
Trends and innovation needs in the european food and drink industryNikos Giannoulidis
The document discusses trends and innovation needs in the European food and drink industry. It notes that while the industry is less innovative than other manufacturing sectors, European food companies innovate more than elsewhere. Key challenges include increased competition, concerns over food safety and quality, and changing consumer trends. The European Technology Platform Food for Life aims to drive innovation and unite stakeholders to meet strategic research objectives around health, quality, sustainability and more. Horizon 2020 is the EU's new 80 billion euro research and innovation program for 2014-2020 that aims to simplify funding and boost competitiveness through coupling research and innovation.
European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy AgeingRunwaySale
The report consolidates the discussions held throughout the 2-day event and is organised in a clear set of actions that we will explore jointly with interested stakeholders in the coming 18 months.
The final report includes possible measures to better convert innovation into economic growth and jobs, mobilize public and private investment, transform health and care systems to meet the needs of the ageing population, leverage technological breakthroughs and build a more inclusive "ageing society".

KJ Poppe FENS novel food and health infrastructuresKrijn Poppe
The document discusses the need for a research infrastructure called DISH-RI (Research Infrastructure for Food related to Nutrition and Health) that would connect different disciplines in the food and health domain. It would do this through a data platform that integrates fragmented data from various sources via services for researchers and stakeholders. The goal of DISH-RI would be to support innovative research at the intersection of food, nutrition and health by connecting data, tools, and services while leveraging existing research communities and infrastructure across Europe. It outlines DISH-RI's potential impacts, including supporting policymakers and industry to improve public health outcomes, as well as proposes next steps like its inclusion in the 2016 ESFRI Roadmap.

- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Press Release ETP Food for Life Brokerage event
1. ETP ‘Food for Life’ promotes research and
innovation
(22 November 2011) The European Technology Platform (ETP) „Food for Life‟ held
its 6th stakeholder event, followed by a brokerage event, on 22 November in
Brussels.
Looking towards the establishment of a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda
to feed into the 8th Framework Programme „Horizon 2020‟, the event brought
together 150 stakeholders from across academia and industry. It also included
contributions from the European Commission and food chain partners.
The morning session was dedicated to the ETP‟s draft Strategic Research and
Innovation Agenda. Stakeholders looked at how the Agenda can increase funding,
better coordinate research, preventing duplication, and promote SME participation in
R&D activities. It was clear that the ETP can mobilise the stakeholder community,
contributing to sharing knowledge on food related activities in Europe.
There were also calls to establish a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) for
food. Providing a platform to promote large-scale industry-driven research and
enhance the development of major technologies, KICs can act as a catalyst for major
research investments, boosting technology transfer.
The afternoon session included a brokerage event where researchers presented over
40 research ideas to potential partners under the broad headings “food and health”,
“food safety” and “sustainability”. The brokerage event, the first of its kind, marks a
new stage in the Platform‟s six years and aims to boost public-private partnerships
with a view to fostering successful innovations in the food industry, thus promoting
growth.
Commenting on the event‟s success, Dr Mike Knowles, President of the ETP Board,
said: “Today‟s ETP stakeholder event demonstrates the importance of the ETP for
the industry. It is through R&D and innovation that manufacturers remain at the
cutting edge of developments, boosting the industry‟s competitiveness and, in turn,
contributing to Europe‟s future economic growth.”
