One Step Beyond Celebrates 12 Who Cares

PEORIA – One Step Beyond (OSB), a local non-profit organization, providing comprehensive
programs to teens and adults with Developmental Disability, was
presented the 12 Who Cares Award for the month of November.
Sponsored by the RoomStore, One Step Beyond will receive
promotional highlights throughout November on 12 News as well as a
$1,200 donation.
OSB opened its doors in 2003 with 16 participants and is now growing
everyday, currently serving 225 participants across the West Valley.
One Step Beyond’s mission is to provide responsive, progressive, and
dynamic programs to empower individuals with Developmental
Disability to realize their dreams of optimal independence, meaningful
employment, significant social relationships, and full participation in
our community. The Department of Economic Security reports
that only 20% of adults with Developmental Disabilities have stable
jobs in the community. One Step Beyond is taking the next step in
providing employment opportunities and job training with their
Employment Readiness Program to help reduce the 80% unemployment rate for this population
of individuals. One way they do this is through food-service job training in their Culinary
Program and then employing them to work in their Cafe and Catering Company.
One Step Beyond will be hosting a Fall Celebration, where the
participants in their culinary training program will be cooking and
serving brunch. This event will be held at the Rio Vista Recreation
Center, 8866 West Thunderbird Road Peoria, AZ 85381, on
November 15th from 11am-2pm. In addition to the wonderful meal,
attendees can enjoy the Silent Auction and Art Sales from the One
Step Beyond Art Program. Individual tickets will be $25, which $15
of that will be considered a charitable donation.
