This document summarizes the strategies and annual reports of the project "Making the Forest Sector Transparent". The project aims to increase access to information about the forestry sector, influence forest governance, and support civil society organizations working on forest issues. It produces annual transparency reports that evaluate countries' compliance with transparency and access to information laws using 20 indicators related to forestry regulations, land tenure rights, and free prior and informed consent. The reports found that Ecuador and Peru had average compliance rates of 57% and 60%, respectively, and identified issues such as unclear land tenure, lack of consultation requirements, and need for comprehensive forest monitoring systems. The project recommends linking REDD+ programs to transparency in budgeting and finance flows.
