Indicative results from cost-benefit-analysis of Africa RISING technologies in Tanzania show that almost all of the technologies being tested by the project are better than the base technologies (farmers’ traditional practices).
The analysis was done by looking at three economic indicators; the gross margin (Tanzania Shillings/ha) (GM), benefit-cost–ratio (BCR) and returns to labor (TZS/person day) (RL).
Nutrition Data Value Chain - Moving from Ideas to Action
This document discusses moving from ideas to action on nutrition data by adopting a data value chain approach. It outlines how global efforts since 2014 have prioritized indicators, created and collected new nutrition data through surveys, made data more accessible through databases, supported analysis tools, synthesized evidence for policies, and integrated data into decision-making. While progress has been made, it calls for continued investment across the entire data value chain from priority setting to use in order to achieve nutrition targets and monitor the SDGs. Adopting national data value chain plans can help translate evidence into action at country level.

- Key achievements included establishing the Task Force, conducting surveillance to determine MLN spread, training extension workers in MLN, and strengthening diagnostic capacity. Challenges included delays, insufficient initial information on seed transmission, and inadequate monitoring and control of seed and grain movement.
- Lessons learned indicated that multistakeholder involvement across the value chain is important for management, seed contributes significantly to spread, and training has helped limit further spread.

Ongoing MLN initiatives: Activies on Maize Lethal Necrosis Diseases in Tanzania
- Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease (MLND) was first reported in Tanzania and little was known about the disease. A strategic plan was developed to manage and control MLND.
- Strategies prioritized included preventing introduction at borders, revisiting seed import conditions, awareness campaigns, surveillance, and creating plant protection rules.
- Awareness activities included distributing posters and leaflets. Training was conducted for extension officers. Rules were published to prevent spread and require reporting.
- Inspection protocols were developed for seed production to limit further spread, including using certified seed, monitoring fields, and roguing infected plants.

Open agricultural and nutrition data can help address global hunger, poverty, and innovation challenges. GODAN is a global open data network with over 260 partners that encourages collaboration and sharing of open agricultural and nutrition data. The GODAN story began in 2012 with G8 commitments to share agricultural data with African partners. GODAN was officially launched in 2013 and holds various events to build momentum around open data. Working groups address specific data issues and case studies showcase successes. The 2016 GODAN Summit in New York will bring together leaders to highlight open data stories and applications through an open data challenge.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation.
