INTRODUCTION
• Objective :
1. To obtain knowledge and skills besides having
an experience in agriculture and livestock
breeding.
2. To experience the world of animals and plants
outside of the theory class.
Quail
• Originated from Europe, Africa and Asia as a
migratory game bird.
• Raised in Japan as a pet, for meat and eggs and
as a singing bird.
• Also introduced to the United States around
1870.
• C. japonica are a fast growing hardy bird. They
are mature at 6 weeks of age and are laying eggs
by 7 weeks of age.
• They are an excellent bird for meat and egg
production.
Japanese Quails
Scientific name: Coturnix japonica
Kingdom : Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class : Aves
Order : Galiformes
Family : Phasianidae
Genus : Coturnix
Morphology
Female Male
 lighter cream colored feathering
on the neck with black stripes and
dotting on the breast.
 rusty brown throat and breast
feathers
 There are sexually dimorphic as it allow different sexes to be distinguished
from one another.
 Males tend to be smaller than females.
Site Preparation
• Antibacterial disinfectant spray
▫ Apply on the floor
▫ To prevent growth and infection of bacteria
• Poultry house cleaning and preparation
▫ Ensure clean and healthy environment for quail
▫ Maintain internal house favorable temperature
(insulator and light bulb)
• Curtain installation
▫ To prevent direct sunlight and heat
• Equipment cleaning
▫ Cleaning food and water container
▫ Insert rocks to prevent juvenile from drowning
