The village of Borpatakhoz was originally a small Hungarian Catholic village documented in 1853, which had a flourishing period during the 1850s due to mining of gold, silver, zinc, copper, and lead that extracted over 2,000 tonnes of silver and other metals. After Transylvania unified with Romania, the mines closed and farming became the main occupation for villagers. Currently, most inhabitants speak Romanian rather than Hungarian due to a lack of Hungarian education in the area.
