PDHPE in primary education provides students opportunities to develop healthy lifestyles and important life skills. It covers topics like health choices, growth, and child protection. It also helps students build social skills, leadership, socialization, and communication. PDHPE promotes physical, mental, and social well-being for students in accordance with the WHO's definition of health. It allows children to work together to protect their health through physical education and health lessons.

as an informative unit on child protection and safety. The
World Health Organisation define health as: ‘a state of
complete physical, mental and social well-being and not
merely the absence of disease or infirmity.‘
Through PDHPE a child is able to be provided with a place
where they can work together to protect their health,
whether that is through physical education or Personal
Development and Health lessons. It also allows students
to formulate goals to enhance their participation in
lifelong physical activity.
