This document summarizes the process of designing murals for music practice rooms at a community college. A survey was conducted to gather student input on what should be included in the murals. Ideas such as shapes, colors, phrases, instruments, and music notes were collected. Focus groups further discussed student preferences. All ideas were combined into a brainstorming session to design two murals incorporating student and staff feedback. Consideration was also given to health and safety issues and materials needed to complete the murals.

4. Our task is to paint a mural in one of the music practice rooms representing ‘Music Brings Us Together’. In order to do this, we had to find our what the students of Cranford Community College wanted. So we went and did a survey asking them qualitative and quantities questions. 16

10. This is Mrs Powell and we asked her qualitative questions asking her if she knew what a mural is and she replied back saying “a mural is a big decorative piece of artwork, it doesn’t have to be painted, it’s applied onto a large surface for example a wall”.

To get a clear understanding of what Cranford Community students wanted to see go up onto the practice room walls e.g. Colours, drawing of people, shapes, phrases, instruments, music notes and many more. We had a focus group of students from different years to help us see what they really want.

12. We put all the ideas into a brainstorm to sum up what the students and staff wanted to see in the music practice rooms
