3. The classical gymnasium of Viipuri was transferd to Kuopio 26th of
July 1940. The desision was made by president of Finland Kyösti Kallio
(desision N:o 369). The new name was Classical Gymnasium of
Kuopio.

6. The school offers instructive and firm all around education.
• Gives its support to a growing young person, helping him to take
control of his own life and being a functioning part of society.
• In Klassikka one can concentrate on sports, humanistic, social or
scientific subjects.
• A student who has chosen the normal high school can also take the
special sports courses that the school offers. A student in the Sports
high school can balance his studies, practising his own sport and also
competing.
• Students have to complete 75 courses during the high school.
7. Summary
•The Academy is a unique arrangement
designed especially for the athlete,
whereby the student athlete can continue her/his
professional training while studying for a career.
This arrangement offers various forms of assistance
both with regard to professional training and
education.
•All of the service programmes are available to the
sportsman or woman participating in the Academy`s
arrangements. System guarantees the athlete the
best opportunities for reaching the top both in sport
and in working life.
Training
• Sports students at the Academy practice professionally both in respect of the amount and quality of
their training. The youngest students at the Academy raise their aggregate training so as to accord
with their own capacity for development.
• Full-time professional teachers, top performers in their own fields, are responsible for the quality of
the training. Coaches at the Pohjois-Savo Region Academy of Sport give instruction every morning
between 8.10 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and in the afternoons after normal lessons.
8. Education
• The Pohjois-Savo Region Academy of Sport has developed educational opportunities for
athletes. The Academy makes it possible for a student to study the subjects she/he desires
while at the same time receiving professional instruction in the sport of his/her choice.

• Athletes at the Sports Academy are extremely motivated and target oriented; they are the
best in their age group. Training in really tough groups is an excellent example of
effective the Team-service programme is.
• The athletes are of different ages, on which account the younger ones are able to
familiarise themselves with the sharper end of top-class sport which in turn influences
their own training.
• Girls and boys train together. The girls benefit from the greater toughness of the boys and
the boys learn to be as conscientious and methodical as the girls.
