The person I chose to interview is my grandmother, Pastor Thompson. My grandma was born in Coffeeville, AL she grew up in a house of eleven children with both her parents. My grandmother raised me and people always tell me I have an old soul because I remember all the things she taught me, that she learned from her mother. One thing I learned about my grandma is that she really valued everything that her mother taught her, and she used those values to instill in me. She’s really old school and she doesn’t care that she was born in 1938 and it is now a new way of doing things. My grandmother remembers The Jim Crow laws from being at school and not being able to use the same bubbler as the white kids. How they had separate entrances than the white kids at school as well. The importance of keeping your head up and never look defeated according to her mother. “Always look like you’re worth something, lift your head up be proud of who you are”, she would say. She was raised Pentecostal Christian, which is a very strict denomination. It surprises me how far back her memory goes and have vivid it is, of course as she get’s older she no longer remembers a lot of things. But I do think that she chose to makes sure she remembered certain things. In being around my grandmother all my life I realized that she and her mother are very superstitious, which to me contradicts being a Christian. No sweeping you foot, don’t step over someone lying on the floor, don’t sit you purse on the floor etc. I chose to interview her because she knows first hand what it was like for African Americans in the time where we regarded as nothing.

This article discusses the trend of "extreme interviewing" where interviewers ask job candidates unusual or bizarre questions to see how they react. Some examples given include asking what kind of dinosaur the candidate would be or having the interviewer pretend to be a chicken. The goal is to assess how quickly candidates can think on their feet when caught off guard. This style of interviewing originated in technology companies in Silicon Valley and is meant to distinguish truly exceptional candidates from just very qualified ones. While strange, proponents believe it provides an opportunity to see aspects of a person's personality that a typical interview may miss. However, others argue it may be too unusual or intimidating for candidates.

Moving on to other aspects of cultural intelligence, there are a few things that you need to know, especially when it comes to other societal structures
In Latin america and some countries of europe, there is something called a kinship family system. This means that in society, family is regarded as the most important thing in your life. If someone in your family is having a problem, everyone joins in to help. Because the family is seen as so important, it also means that people know A LOT about their ancestors and the origins of their bloodline. Having a supportive family makes you seem “rich”
In america, we have the “nuclear family” system. We care mostly about our grandparents, parents, and children. There is not as much emphasis on our ancestors because our society tells us that you have to provide for the family in order to be “rich.” Does that make sense?
Before you travel, and especially before you make an artistic production, you need to do some research on the different societies you’re going to be seeing or portraying. It’s important to keep in mind the views on women, family, the history of the country, the economic climate, and especially the language. Because there might be phrases or terms you might not understand or may be insulting. (For instance, do NOT SAY FANNY IN THE UK)
