The Characteristics Of Hidden Illnesses
Hidden Illnesses

Hidden Illnesses Depression, anxiety, personality, eating, trauma related, and substance abuse
disorders are only a small amount of mental illnesses that are known to man. Each disorder differs
from one another and none are alike when helping the affected to be cured. Many illnesses are
hidden from the public completely unnoticed while others are easy to spot. Mental illness is a
condition changing the way the patient thinks, behaves, and functions. A ballerina named Rosie
may appear to be perfectly graceful and no different than any other as she twirls and leaps across
the floor. Many see her elegance as her turns are spotted to perfection. Rosie finishes her dance
and heads into the locker room, the passion and joy she felt a few seconds ago on the stage
vanishes. She stresses over the mistakes made worried for the judges seeing the imperfect sickle
of her footing or the misplacement of the arms. She throws these feelings or anxiety aside for the
thoughts may ruin her passion. Rosie arrives home, dinner cooked for her celebration of her
dance competition. She refuses to eat. A concerned look appears on her mother s face, curious
as to why she will not eat. Rosie expresses how she is just too tired and heads to bed, but she
appreciates the gesture. This example may appear to just be a simple day for Rosie, but what isn t
noticed is the fact that as Rosie lays in bed, she is intentionally

Salt Concentration Experiment
This experiment is a planned intervention, which will analyze the effects of the defined variable,
salt. During the course of this experiment, tests are conducted regarding the effects of changing salt
concentration on the regeneration of brain cells in Alzheimer s patients. During the course of this
experiment, variables are considered. First, the independent variable, in this case, the level of salt
content within the capacity of the brain, is exposed to conditions that are altered. After its
exposure, the experimenter will document the changes. In addition, the dependent variable, in this
case, the rate that the Alzheimer s disease regenerates its cells, is modified because of the changes
within the independent variable. Consequently, the dependent variable will reveal the results of the
experiment because it isolates the effects of a single condition.... Show more content on

Within this experiment, the controls are the conditions that include everything except the salt
level. Conditions include environmental conditions such as the room temperature, light exposure,
water, the items used to measure of the store the substances during testing, and any other
elements or otherwise materials added to the variables including, but not limited to other added
fluids. Moreover, the control area will include an area in which the brain cells are removed and
/or tested. In Alzheimer s disease (AD), neurofib tangles and amyloid plaques, are found in the
smell organ in the nose, olfactory bulb, and in the medial temporal lobe of the brain (Devere,
n.d.). Therefore, because the temporal lobe is the primary auditory perception, it receives the
information from the ears. In addition, the underside of the temporal lobe plays a crucial role in
both receiving and forming memories (Temporal Lobe, n.d). Finally, other parts of this lobe seem

Conspiracy Theories Of The Rugrats

Midterm Paper
Rugrats The topic I chose for my paper is about the conspiracy theory about the show in 90s called
Rugrats. The Rugrats premiered on August 11, 1991 and it ended in June 4, 2004. The names of
the creators of Rugrats are Arlene Klasky, and Gabor Csupo. In the show of the Rugrat s, one of
the babies in show named Tommy. Tommy has parents named Didi and Stu Pickles are based on
the creators. Personally I think its really interesting the creator s made Rugrats based on there
lives as parents. The Pickles house in Rugrats are based on original address of klasky s Csupo

When it came down to Character Chuckie or Tommy best friend in the show its said to be similar
to Composer Mark Mothersbaugh. In the show there a bully known as Angelica, she based on
memory of Paul s the producer of Rugrats, of his childhood bully. Each person that made a impact
on there lives have such influence on them, they made characters that are based on there actions.
Angelica is a bully, yet you come to understand her crazy ideas and outcomes toward the other
characters in Rugrats. With these characters in Rugrats in mind, you can t help but feel a
connection to them.
The conspiracy theory I found is darker twist in realm of Rugrats. In this theory is based on
character Angelica imaginations. Apparently Angelica was not only having all Rugrats in her
head but she is a paranoid schizophrenic(loses based of reality). Chuckie died along with his
mother, that the reason why chuckie s father Chaz is a wreak and tends breakdown with his
nerves over whelming him. Then there is Tommy he is actual a stillborn, or son that didn t get
to be born. Due to the fact of Tommy, his father Stu pickles he couldn t help be depressed and
obsessed on making toys in basement where for son he will never have. When it came down to
Deville s known as friends to pickles, they had a abortion, since Angelica found about it, she did
not know the gender of the baby, so she thought of about the twins Phil and lil. Angelica get into the

Wonder Woman
15 October 2014
Wonder Woman Children always looking for a positive role model to have, and many end up
choosing superheroes they see in their favorite comic books or ones they have seen in the media.
Since children are so easily affected by things they see in their childhood, having discriminatory
elements in these influential characters may be problematic. The Wonder Woman Precedent:
Female (Super) Heroism on Trial written by Julie D. O Reilly, was published in the Journal of
American Culture in 2005. O Reilly is a professor of communication and women and gender at
Heidelberg University. In The Wonder Woman Precedent , she writes about the hardships that
female superheroes in the media must face that male superheroes do not go ... Show more content

To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not believe so
because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics.
Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed to be equal to
her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy enough to become a superhero
through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into her title; she had to earn it unlike all the
male superheroes that came before and after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had
to compete in a series of extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a
final life or death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives
multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes have. For
instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark Kent s choice to fight
crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to prove his abilities to a higher
authority in order to become a superhero. He simply chose to wear a cape and enforce justice. O
Reilly explains, ...The resolution of heroic trials, in their various forms, differs significantly

The World Of World War 2
World War 2 was one of the most catastrophic events in human history. With millions dying in
very few years, the destruction has left a scar on nations that is still visible in the present day.
One of the most terrifying nations back during the days of war was Japan. Their culture
promoted war, fighting, and being as ruthless as possible, causing them to be an extreme threat
to world peace. The military looked into ancient myths about the Japanese, and the Emperor in
particular, as they were said to be directly related to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The
nation and military of Japan wanted to bring racial and spiritual purity into the world, and as
Laurence Rees put it, The Japanese had been brainwashed for centuries . The war in the
Japanese front took longer to end, and many speculate that if the United States had not created
the atom bomb, the war in Asia would have lasted many more years. The answers for this
prolongation is rooted deep in Japanese culture and history. There are many strange examples and
acts from the Japanese military during World War 2. For example, not a single soldier would ever
surrender as POW. Due to rules by the military and the indoctrination of beliefs, soldiers would
refuse to accept defeat. This had roots in the government as well, and the Emperor of Japan along
with the rest of the government refused surrender even when defeat was apparent. The
interpretation of Japanese social, military, and historical culture caused individual

Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced
When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There
are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or
wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential
definitions: communicationis the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter,
1995, p. 27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of
communication theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country,
India. When referring to communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver
Model that was invented in 1947. This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the
information source called sender, sends the information to its destination, the receiver.
Information obviously does not get to the receiver magically; this is why this model was
invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and ideas, and how they reach their
destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced, the employee called Todd
Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he was called to privately
speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave who sends the
information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its
destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that

The Representation Of Interracial Relationships
In the multi cultural society that we live in today, relationships from all different cultures are
welcomed. The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the
unfortunate years of slavery. Where the mixing of white and black was a taboo, but still carried
out by the white slave masters on their black maids/ slaves.
In this essay I will be looking at the representation of interracial relationships and how these
relationships have been portrayed in cinema from 1903 up until present. I will be discussing the
how miscegenation has been represented to audiences over the years as a problem, and something
that is unnatural. This essay will be anasyling scenes from movies such as Birth of a Nation, and

It was this filmed that sparked the 1927 production code, which was called the Don t and Be
Carful s. This production code was a guideline for professionals in the industry, on what was not
to be depicted on the screens for audience to watch. The representation of miscegenation was
strictly prohibited from the years 1930 1956. This production code was a reflection of the views
that were held in society at the time. As cinema is often a reflection of society, miscegenation
when it is present in films is often if not always represented to the audience as problematic. The
relationships start off great but have a hard time progressing to anything further as, each side has to
deal with problems that they cannot relate to, or has issues addressing with their partners. These as
these were the views of society at the time, the view that these interracial relationship wouldn t
work and were unnatural were projected on our screens to further reinforce the message to the
audience.
Miscegenation was first shown on screens in 1903, in the film What happened in the tunnel? .
Unusually the interracial relationship is not represented in its typical form. There is no physical
relationship presented to the audience, miscegenation is presented to the audience when a white
man catches the eye of a white woman while embarking on a train

The Sacred Ritual Of Marriage
Rituals can be described as an outward expression of inward intention (Rituals, Rites and
Festivals, n.d.). Rituals have a prominent role in today s society as they enable people of all
religions to communicate and form a stronger connection with their God or Gods (Rituals, Rites
and Festivals, n.d.). Over the years rituals have evolved because society s values have changed and
modern culture has had an influence on them. The sacred ritual of marriage in Catholic Christianity
and Hinduism, while superficially different, are essentially the same. This is particularly evident
when analysing similarities and differences in each faith s perception of the purpose of marriage,
the structure of the two weddingceremonies, the symbols involved in the two ceremonies, and the
role of family in the Catholic and Hindu weddingceremony.
An area of similarity within Catholic weddings and Hindu weddings is the purpose of marriage.
Both Catholicism and Hinduism represent the purpose of marriage through their sacred texts and
traditional ideas. In Catholicism the sacrament of Marriage is represented as a sacred bond
between a man and a woman that pledges them to be faithful lifelong spouses, loving and caring
for each other and lovingly raising and guiding the children they bring into the world
(Stoutzenberger, 2000). The emphasis that is placed on having children is seen in the Bible when
God says to Adam and Eve, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 1:28). Similarly the

many situations. Rebellion can also bring itself out whether to fight against social conformity,
overthrowing an authoritarian government, or even going after a self interest. When rebellion

can lead to a great adventure, or it can ruin your life. One technique Rebellion can do its damage is

Harrison Bergeron was also similar to Ellison s Repent, Harlequin! in that they re fighting an

compared to Frost s The Road Not Taken due to the self interest and desire they had for the
experience they wanted. Rebellion can present itself in many scenarios, but eventually, the
consequences that come along are unpredictable.

Characterism In Alius Grace
Niederhoff says, In Alias Grace, the spirit of Mary also supports Grace. We should not see the
ghostly presence inside Grace in exclusively negative terms: as a demon to be exorcised, a
disorder to be cured. We should also see it as a survival strategy. The person talking through Grace
s mouth during the hypnosis scene quite literally defends and protects Grace when she tells the
audience that Grace is not guilty of the murders because she knew nothing about them. This person
also enables Grace to insulate her mindagainst the memory of traumatic experiences, and provides
her with an outlet for her feelings of jealousy and rage, primarily against Nancy, that Grace more
or less represses in her own person. Moreover, the Mary inside Grace turns the tables on the male
victimizers with the help of her host s body. Grace can maintain her own sanity and identity only
at the cost of splitting in two, of relegating some of her memories and actions to a second person,
who turns out to be a murderer. This person, intruding ghost or self created alter, is alias Grace ;
she is the same woman as Grace Marks in the sense that she shares some of the experiences and
motives of the latter, and she is a different person in the sense that Grace Marks is not aware of her
(Niederhoff 79). I also agree with Niederhoff s viewpoint. The notion that Grace is possessed for
the purpose of protecting herself relates to Grace s wish of her mother to do so. As Grace recalls of
her mother, She was a

Knights Of The Middle Ages
The word chivalry originates from the Old French word chevalerie which can be translated to
skill in riding a horse . Only the men who could skillfully control the strength and speed of a
horse were likely to survive in combat. Over time the word came to stand for much more, in
particular, a code of behavior, conduct and ethics to which all knights were held. These knights
were bound by a code of honor. Each knighthad to swear that he would defend the weak, the poor,
widows, orphans, and the oppressed. He was to be courteous, especially to women; brave; loyal
to his leaders; and concerned about the welfare of his subordinates, or those of lesser rank and

Archbishop Thomas Beckett s shrine is there and it has become the most important place in the
country for pilgrims to visit. The Knight is going on this pilgrimage to Canterbury to render
thanks (Chaucer 5) to God for keeping his son and he safe and alive during the wars. The Knight
has a religious and moral obligation that is partly based on his oath to serve God. Almost every
European knight was quick to protect the church and to fight its enemies.
The Knight s striking military career is considered prestigious and esteemed. The Knight has
fought in fifteen mortal battles (Chaucer 4) all over the world. He fought in Prussia, Lithuania,
Granada, North Africa, Anatolia, and Russia. His devotion to his career brings attention to the
significance of fighting for the Knight, it is during his violent interactions with others, that his
loyalty to the knightly code should be most apparent (n.a. par. 2). The Knight s devotion to his
work in the military can be assumed by how Chaucer describes his appearance when he begins his
pilgrimage. In contrast to his son, the Squire, who wears fine clothing embroidered like a meadow
bright and full of freshest flowers, red and white (Chaucer 5), the Knight, Chaucer reveals, is not
gaily dressed (Chaucer 5) which divulges that

I was expecting to be correct in the assumption in the case of debit card holders having to make
less visits to ATM machines than non debit card holders, but I was also prepared to be proven
wrong in the same scenario should the study and information we discovered shed light on the
other side of the argument in this case. Reasoning out the hypothesis statement that people with
debit cards would automatically no longer need to make as many trips to ATM machines does
seem to be the logical deduction, as it only makes sense that a person who can then have access
to his account and able to make withdrawals from any location that can accept debit cards would
then have little need to go directly to his or her banks own ATM machine. On the other hand,
what may make sense does not always happen to be what occurs, and so we were ready to put our
hypothesis to the test to prove our reasoning and confirm or refute our case.
From the information gathered and the studies we researched, I was quite pleased at the results
I had found. In nearly every case in which I was able to document and verify that the data came
from a trusted source, I was discovering a near two to one ATM visitation rate between non debit
card holders and those that did possess debit cards. The extremes of the test did prove to be
fascinating in showing the disparity of the data collected, and showed that even with room for
error, my hypothesis was well deserved. In one case,

The Theme Of Nature And Nurture In The Film Frankenweenie
Frankenweenie is a stop motion animated, horror comedy short film directed by Tim Burton.
Released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2012, the film was produced by Tim Burton and Allison
Abbate. Frankenweenie is a rendition of the 1818 novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The original
story of Frankenstein focuses on Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a sapient, grotesque
creature by utilizing the power of electricity; the story also highlights the repercussions that follow
his unorthodox scientific experiment. In Frankenweenie, Burton incorporates the main components
of Shelley s novel in the plot. Burton s interpretation of Frankenstein drastically simplifies the
relationship between creator and creature from a complex hate love relationship to one of simple,
devoted friendship. This simplification in the film of Frankenweenie enables young viewers to
comprehend the storyline more so than if a intricate relationship were presented. The result of the
oversimplification is the inability for audiences to recognize the theme of nature versus nurture
intended by Shelley in the dated novel of Frankenstein. This essay will focus on the realization of
the differences in the relationship between Frankenstein and his creation portrayed in Mary Shelley
s novel Frankenstein and Tim Burton s film Frankenweenie; in addition, the analysis will address
how these differences affect the manner in which the theme of nurture versus nature is
communicated to the audience. The importance

Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity
Today s society is infatuated with the thought of being fit and skinny. Although eating healthy and
balanced sounds ideal for most Americans, this can be more difficult than it seems. Because of the
number of families living in poverty, eating a nutritious and balanced diet is a tremendous
challenge. Healthy foods generally cost more than cheaper, processed foods. Families attempting to
make the most of their scarce amount of money will try to stretch their dollar and purchase large
quantities of food, disregarding the nutritional value. Many studies show the correlation between

problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause
Obesity? Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps
have been found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high
consumption immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising,
as when food is plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified
for this program are essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family
members in their home. The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly
enough to provide a healthy diet by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30
percent of food stamp recipients would spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if
they received cash instead of stamps. Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items,
this can limit the families spending power. When given their monthly allotment of food stamps, the
family will stock up on the inexpensive, unhealthy food, because it lasts the longest. When living
under these circumstances, the individual doesn t have a choice to be particular with the items they

Kaku (Di) Islands Dispute

Since the cusp of the Diplomatic Age a century ago, Г†lfe Ork relations have taken a turn for the
worse. Two Г†lfe Ork wars humiliated the Г†lves, resulting in loss of territory to a culture the
Г†lves deemed derivative and inferior to their own. Part of that lost territory was the Kaku, or Di 1

and the meaning they have come to hold in power relations between the Г†lves and the Orks.
Relations 2 between the two states have become even more strained in recent years, as increasingly
vocal Orkish nationalists refuse to acknowledge the dispute, and express pride in the military
aggression of the

Coach Chet s Effect On The Greenwave Girls
Chance at Revenge
Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally defeated can
make you feel like you re at rock bottom, while winning a championship game can make you feel
as if you re on the top of the world. This is a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up
to their biggest rival of all, showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible.
The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing basketball
together since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of them played for the love
of the game, no matter if they win or lose. They were no all star team that destroyed and
dominated every opponent they took on; just an average team with wins and losses scattered
around the grid. There was one team in particular that the Greenwave girls could never compete
with, and they lived in the same city. The Sacred HeartEagles. Beginning in first grade, this team
had never struggled to beat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their coach was Chet Carnivale. Coach Chet had been making a big impact on the Greenwave
girls. It was late January, early February; the middle of the basketball season, and their record was
22 0. They couldn t believe they were undefeated. Taking on Sacred Heart at 4:30, the Greenwave
girls would compete to win the championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament. Time had
flown by. The sound of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning
rubber on the floor meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely
anxious. Coach Chet had sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and fear quickly
turned into anger and determination to give their long time enemy a taste of their own medicine.
Somehow, the fear of destroying their record and losing a chance at revenge still lingered in the
back of their minds. All of a sudden, the ref blew the whistle for the jump

Oedipus the King a Tragic Hero

A Tragic Hero Indeed! In Sophocles tragedy Oedipus the King, King Oedipus swears to solve the
murder of former King Laios in order to free the city from the plague. The plague taunts the city
destroying crops and livestock and making the women unable to bear children. A seer, Teirsias tells
Oedipus that he himself is Thebes s pollution for killing his father and marrying his mother.
Oedipus ignores his words and is blind to the truth until he discovers that it is he who corrupts the
city. In order to illustrate Oedipus as the perfect Aristotelian tragic hero, the reader must examine

The Causes Of The Capitalist Revolution In Europe
In Europe, a revolution took place. This revolution was known as the Capitalist Revolution.
Capitalism as it s also called, is a system which uses the investment of money, or capital , to
produce profits. This system was introduced and implemented in the year 1250 through the 1500
s. Under this revolution the people were split into a caste. The Church, The Monarch, and The
Nobility took the upper class while those who worked under them were known as the Middle
class. The reason as to why they were known as the upper class was because they owned land.
Their status as landowners gave them the power to basically own slaves or exploit those were in
serfdom to the land owners. Capitalism allowed the wealthy to invest and buy businesses. This
system that allows rich people to invest their money in projects and make or lose even more
money. This lead to a monetary difference between rich and poor. One of the ruling classes was
the Church. the Church became one of Europe s dominant powers when Rome fell in the year
476. The power of the Church grew with the weakening of Rome s secular influences. The ensuing
regional isolation in turn led to a dividing trend in which the various reaches of the Empire,
particularly the distant regions increasingly had to resort to provincial self reliance. Secondly, as
the Roman state s abilities to govern and administer the Empire s vast stretches declined, several
administrative and government occupations were given to local bishops,

Robert Frost s Desert Places
Robert Frost s Desert Places
One of the most monumental poetic works of T.S Eliot is The Waste Land . The poem emerges as
a gigantic metaphor for melancholy, loneliness, solitude the unavoidable companions of human
existence. Similar kinds of feelings are evoked by Robert Frost in Desert Places .
The very title is suggestive of a mood of emptiness. Throughout our life we cross various deserts to
find our destiny. The beauty of the poem lies in the conjunction the meetingpoint desert outside in
the nature with the desert inside. This becomes the focal point of the poem. The dreary opening is
indicated by the falling snow and the advancing night. The poet observes the scenario as the snow
blankets the earth and the darkness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now the poet finally gives to the whole scene. The tiny man feels shrouded by the layers of snow.
The lonesome man crystallizes his loneliness in this snowy covering.
Such is the impact of the natural cohesiveness that the poet, as he observes the natural panorama,
regards himself as an intruder in this unit. The poet relishes the pleasure that the animals are
having as they crouch in their lairs, becoming a part of the nature. The animals manage to develop
a correlation with the nature because they don t complain due to a feeling of unconsciousness
while the poet does complain, he does give vent to his feeling as his perceptive mind ponders over
the cold hard realities.
Realities that whether he matters in this whole setup? The strain in the emotional chords of the
poet endow a strange minor tone to the whole poem as he realizes that his benumbed mind has
failed to draw a relation and so he grooves back into his own self.
The whole of the second stanza is brimming with the realization of being deprived.
It becomes his callousness and stubbornness to enter the realm of nature and endowed to him by
the sense of being lonely and deprived. The recognition of this sense of loneliness and
dispossession results in his mind being at a loss to emotional response. In this mind set he gives
way to the benumbing mood all around. The whole nature is showing a moodic deceleration
because of the snow and the night. In direct contrast to its nature, this

A fundamental aspect of managing any computer system, UNIX or otherwise, is the backup of user
and system data for possible retrieval purposes in the case of system failure, data corruption, etc.
Users, both teacher, student, or counselor, expect and depend on the admin to recover files that
have been accidentally erased, or lost due to hardware problems. Backup devices may be locally
connected to a system or remotely accessible across a network. Typical backup media types
include: 1/4 cartridge tape, 8mm cartridge tape (used infrequently today) DAT (very common)
DLT (where lots of data must be archived) Floptical, ZIP, JAZ, SyQuest (common for user level
backups) Backup tapes, disks and other media should be well looked after in a secure location
within the university, primarily at a main office as a whole (ie. Arizona). Software tools for
archiving data include low level format independent tools, file and directory oriented tools such
as tar, filesystem oriented tools, standard UNIX utilities, and high level tools (normally
commercial packages) such as IRIS NetWorker. The most commonly used program is tar, which
allows one to gather together a number of files and directories into a single tar archive file. Tar files
can also be compressed and some of the university s backup devices have built in hardware
compression abilities. Note that files such as MPEG movies and JPEG images are already in a

The Importance Of A Carbohydrate And Its Effect On Human Body
Introduction A carbohydrate is consumed and used in our bodies by breaking it down, and
making glucose. Glucose is a sugar that our body uses to give us energy. Carbohydrates generally
provide us with fiber, vitamins and minerals. There are two kinds of carbohydrates: simple and
complex. We get our simple carbohydrates from foods such as milk, lactose products, fruit, and
sugar. Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, come from starches like cereal, bread, beans,
potatoes, and starchy vegetables. The benedict test is used to indicate the reducing property of
sugars. All simple sugars (glucose) are reducing sugars. They will react with a blue liquid called
Benedict s solution to give a brick red color (positive). We can use this reaction to find out if a
food or other substance contains a reducing sugar. The standard used for reducing sugar was
glucose, and the control group was water. Polysaccharides are relatively complex carbohydrates.
They are polymers made up of many monosaccharides joined together by glycoside bonds. They
are therefore very large, often branched, macromolecules. They tend to be amorphous, insoluble in
water, and have no sweet taste. Starches are glucose polymers in which glucopyranose units are
bonded by alpha linkages. It is made up of a mixture of Amylose and Amylopectin. Amylose
consists of a linear chain of several hundred glucose molecules and Amylopectin is a branched
molecule made of several thousand glucose units. Glycogen is a

Alfred Hitchcock s Influence On Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock made very psychological films that makes you wonder if his personal life had
any effect or influence. In the city of London, Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was born on August 13,
1899, to two strict catholics. His childhood was described as lonely and sheltered. Alfred once
said that his father sent him to the police station with a note. In that note, his father asked to him
lock him up for ten minutes as a punishment for behaving poorly. As another punishment his
mother would also force him to stand at the end of her bed for long periods of time, an event which
is also a scene in his filmPsycho.
Alfred eventually went on to getting a job at a cable company called Hanley s. It was here,
where he first started to write. While working here he would write articles for the in house
publication. Then in 1920, he entered the film industry designing title cards for silent films.
Eventually by making his way up, he had earned a position as an assistant director. As the years
passed on Alfred was known as a director, producer and screenwriter.
During Alfred Hitchcock s time period, the film industry was greatly influenced by him. Alfred

The Challenges Of The Conflict Between North And South Korea
The fourth challenge to unite these two countries is their conflicts. This conflict is start from 1950

want to unite these two states (Wikipedia, List of border incidents involving North Korea, 2015).
The Korean War began as a civil war between North and South Korea, but the conflict soon became
international when, under U.S leadership, the United Nations joined to support South Korea and
the People s Republic of China (PRC) entered to aid North Korea. The Korea war ends when a

10 Rules for Creating Successful Power Point Presentations

they go nuts with the animation, swoops, and flying headlines that make audiences dizzy to little
purpose. Or they use cheap looking clip art that creates a tacky image of speaker and organization
in the mind of the audience.
But what about the right way to use Power Point? What does that look like? Is there any right

The Complexity of Artificial Intelligence
The complexity of artificial intelligence tasks has grown steadily, agent based systems
technology has been hailed as a new paradigm for automating, conceptualizing, designing, and
implementing such software systems. A multi agent system is a computerized system composed of
multiple interacting intelligent agents within an dynamic environment. Agents are intelligent
computer programs that act autonomously on behalf of their users, across open and distributed
environments, to solve a complex problems. Such system helps in solving the problem that are
beyond the individual capacities or knowledge of each agent or problem solver[1]. Autonomous
vehicles are no longer in the realm of science fiction, thanks to the artificial intelligence and
integration of numerous automotive technologies that have matured over many years[2].
Autonomous vehicles could save lives, reduce traffic, reduce accidents, and help the environment
by reducing fuel demands and pollution. One such example is Military Drones. Technologies such
as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warn ing, lane departure warning, and V2V/V2I
communications are being merged into one complex system. When designing systems that are
complex, dynamic and stochastic in nature, simulation is generally recognized as one of the best
design support technologies, and a valuable aid in the strategic and tactical decision making
process. Such simulation can very well be useful where the effects of implementation of a

Even though you may think you can succeed without a plan, every decision made will either

Regaining control and charting a course or a plan is what is needed. Regaining control may not
be easy but it is necessary. Establishing a plan is step two in the process. Even with forward
momentum, if there is no planned destination you may be going in circles for a very long time and
not even realize it.
The most important reason every decision made will either help or hinder success is because all
actions have consequences. In defining success we must also decide what active role we play in
our own success. We must ask the question, does success happen on its own? What influences
success? And how much of an active role do we play in our own success. (insert/cite research

they did that because the school kicked their kids out. The school should have just talked to the
parents about the situation and ask them politely to take the armbands off instead of just making
a rule about it and kicking them out. I think this court case had a really bad reason for being
made into a court case. Even though there was a reason they should have found a better one to
make a court case. In this court case we somehow argued for five to ten minutes with each
argument that the lawyers laid on the table. We then went out and voted for money to be given to
the Tinkers and to let them wear their armbands. So now the school should think of how they re
going to treat matters better instead of just kicking kids out for wearing an armband that says what
they think of the Vietnam War. So I think that armbands are allowed because they re armbands why

Comparing Judge Brack And A Streetcar Named Desire
Judge Brack and Stanley, two oppresive antagonist indirectly or directly leading to the tragedies of
the women in the stories, behaved in a sympathetically reasonable manner, given the inveterate
gender discrimination customs. Brack and Stanley are two important figures to shadow the miser of
the women and reflects the social illness at that time. The social background not only contributed to
the sadness of women but also contorted people s thoughts in a terrifying but understandable extent.
To begin with, Judge Brack, in the story of Hedda Gabler, is psychologically similar to Hedda. He
keeps contacts with Tesman to notify news to him and eventually flirts with Hedda. Brack has no
apparent interest in marriage, an opinion held by Hedda to have fun with other men to somehow
challenge the social gender burden silently. He is the person that Hedda cares about the most. She
is honest with Brack. For example, she confesses to Brack that these things come over me, just
like that, suddenly. And I can t hold back. However, Brack is oppressive as the result of the
notorious blackmail to Hedda. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He, in A Streetcar Named Desire, dramatically highlights the strength of men over weak status
women, represented by Blanche. It is Stanley who points out the rumors of Blanche in the past.
He wants her to leave only because she tries to escape the reality, a sign of tenderness. As brother
in law, Stanley does not give a hand to Blanche, obviously finding out something stange on
Blanche. He is melicious and derisive when he verbally attacks Blanche and debunks her past
things. In the end, he raped Blanche and sent her out of his home, stifling her small willingness to
live in her own illusioned life. If Blanche could be considered as a person with new hope for
moving into a new place with some realistic pursuits, Stanley is clearly the person thrushing her

Comparing Fletcher And Nieman
J.K. Simmons plays the brilliant sadist, Terence Fletcher who will do anything to unlock his student
s potential and push them past the limits of what s expected. Fletcher gives no pats on the back or
words of encouragement, he picks even the most minuscule mistakes that his students make
especially Nieman, and uses it to beat them with a burst of vulgar tirades, in which you can t help
but chuckle at some comments. His abusive and manipulative behavior seeds out the weak in his
military like orchestra so students can dedicate themselves to practicing and achieving ultimate
greatness. Fletcher and Nieman are both perfectionist and driven by music and greatness. There are

The story is not only told through character development but editing of suspense and manic energy.
Most of the film is either synchronized edited through the music or traditional edits. Shots
rhythmically change based on the music beats and changes. Fast paced cutting and action of
instruments of music are made like music videos to keep scenes visually interesting. The film also
becomes even more heated up for example, when Fletcher slaps Nieman, the camera is close up
and jumps eyeliner with every hit making the moment visually disorientating. A slight camera
shake is also visible when the scene climaxes and enhances rumbling moments in scenes. Slow
motion is used when Nieman is confident and relaxed, in order to glorify his self assurance before
it gets crushed by fletchers teaching. But there are slow traditional scenes throughout the movie, for
example when Andrew is with Nicole the editing is long with no fast cuts to keep a gentle romantic
tone between the characters. Tom Cross uses a lot of cut to the beat, quick editing but also shows
traditional edits to keep you on your toes and ultimately give the movie it s feeling of uncertainty

Cosmic Way Of Life Essay
45. What are and what causes The PANGS OF CONSCIENCE ?
Animals have no choice, but to live animal life, in other words, to KILL in order to LIVE!
However, Terrestrial Human Beings, to a considerable extent, have a choice either to live animal
or humanized way of Life. The irrefutable cosmological fact is that Condition of Life in Humans
IS NOT TO KILL! The Animal Way of Life, is degenerating in humans but is still deeply
ingrained through millions of years of routine practice and subtle guidance of HABITUAL
CONSCIOUSNESS. Obviously, such way of Life derived directly from the Killing Principle is in

Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Rosseau
Golding and Rousseau brought two different ideas using Lord of the Flies. They make you really
think on what they are trying to prove. You can agree with either of them but people have their
own opinions. Golding and Rousseau disagreed with each other s opinions on how human nature
becomes evil. If I had to choose whose opinion I agree with, then I would choose
Rousseau s.
Rousseau s beliefs regarding human nature were that people are not born evil. He believes that
people are good and act the way they want to. He does not believe that anyone can never be evil
without something causing them to be. He believes that when someone is evil or makes bad
decisions, it is because they are corrupted by society. People in society makes someone desire
something that us past the level of good to meet their needs which is by something bad. Written
by Rousseau, Let us conclude that, being self sufficient and subject to so few passions, he could
have no feeling or knowledge but such as befitted his situation. I believe that his statement is
explaining that when someone desires something so bad, they would do anything not even
realizing what they may be doing is wrong which helps them get what they want. It makes them
think that it is okay. Rousseau claimed that people who are born evil are ill or mental. Golding s
beliefs on human nature was mostly opposite of Rousseau s beliefs. Golding believed that
everyone is born badly and are naturally evil. He believed that people

Peer Led Groups Research Paper
Peer led groups focus on connecting people with a shared experience or goal. Individuals work
together to provide support and knowledge through their own experiences. Like any group, peer
led support groups can be personal and stressful so my question is this; how do peer led support
groups function when emotions become high and raw? Group setting can be stressful when
working with different personalities and opinions, so what steps can be taken to see to an effective
outcome? Every group has a different purpose. Some groups are put together to create a final
outcome whereas peer led groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, where the group purpose is sobriety

Alex Shapiro Research Paper
Beethoven once said, Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the
eyes of a woman. I find this quote to be very true because many of Shapiro s pieces that I have
listened to has made me feel many emotions. A good composer will fill ears with music, but, a
great composer will fill hearts with music. According to a 2010 interview, an interview asked
Shapiro what kind of composer are you? and she replied a wonderful composer! I love her
enthusiasm and sense of humor; Shapiro later followed up her response to that question and
stated that she is a heartfelt composer, who writes in all genres and styles. Alex Shapiro was
born in New York City in 1962, and she was brought up in Manhattan. She moved to Los Angeles
in 1983, where she stayed for 24 years. Shapiro studied at The Juilliard School and The
Manhattan School of Music, in fact, that is where she realized she loved composing acoustic and
electroacoustic music ( Landscape Music ). Although Alex Shapiro is not as well known as some
composers, she still has a great musical history, and she is still hard at work with new projects....

Artificial Intelligence Concerns
Concerns on Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence is still an infant compared to other
technologies. It brings about great promises for our future and some even predict that its
importance will rival that of the printing press. (Boden) By human nature, many tried to play God:
People of all generation and all over the world dreamt of creating a being that is capable of
carrying out human actions. A few decades ago, many regarded cloning as ludicrous and simply
ignored it. However, we have accomplished it, and who knows what advancement is coming.
Artificial intelligence, although nascent, is very popular and as Ray Kurtzweil suggests might be
possible within the next thirty year. Kurtzweil further... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of artificial intelligence, therefore, will benefit many, bringing about the
common good. Artificial intelligence applications are numerous. Schools can buy interactive
AI, which will never be bored or angry, to teach. Businesses can also benefit by hiring workers
who are never bored, complain, or strike. However, there are many obvious ethical issues
involved when dealing with artificial intelligence. First and most apparent, is that if we allow
artificial research to continue, many workers, especially labor workers, will lose their jobs due
directly to the development of artificial intelligence. This is absolutely unfair for these workers.
What are they going to do? How will they support their families? Many will become homeless or
turn to crime. The balance between the poor and the rich will be tipped. There will be few who
will enjoy this development, namely the business owners, who have control of the AI and are
independent of the lower class labor force. The rest will be in destitute. As we know, if only a
small portion of society does productive work, the economy will be in chaos. According to Tom
Shanks, a doctor for Applied Ethics at Markkula Center, when companies move toward robotics, it
is the company s responsibility to retrain employees who lost their jobs. (Machines)

Manic Existence Of Turtles
On the Manic Existence of Turtles
Introduction
Turtles are strange creatures.
They re not the end all of strangeness, but they are irritatingly close to that line.
They hang in the balance, so close to being outcast by animal society, yet so very far from it.
If you asked someone what their favourite sort of animal is, and they said turtles, you wouldn t
scoff or think they were strange, you would nod and it s possible that the situation would simply
devolve into an everyday conversation about ocelots, as most situations do.
However, if that person said that their favourite animal is the spiny, melted jelly bean like echidna,
you might question that person and their mental state at the time, when really, they re on par with
each other.

Softshell Turtles
Never has there been an animal that looks so much like a soggy burrito, a hotdog, and a dinosaur
engaged in a night of passion and somehow birthed a turtle.
Have you seen softshell turtles?
Usually, I like things with soft shells, and find them bearable or even pleasant to look at. (E.g., soft
shell tacos, soft shell crabs in most circumstances, soft shell coats, etc.)
Softshell turtles broke that already broad reasoning; they absolutely shattered what I thought was a
fairly open perception of what turtles really are.
What is a turtle? All signs point to the defining features of turtles as being scales, a shell, and a
look that says, I want to murder the human race, but that also implies mercy and a lack of effort
towards that cause.
Softshell turtles barely have shells, have fairly smooth skin, and look as if they re currently on a
killing spree that will halt for no man, woman, or child.
They look like the spawn of a soggy burrito, a hot dog, and a dinosaur, as previously stated; they
don t look very much like the turtles we ve all come to know and be creeped out

Why Is Netherland Smaller Than America
The Netherlands and America are so different but yet alike. The Netherlands is so much smaller
than the United States. Also, the United States has a lot more freedom. The Netherlands is more

want to do, they can own as many heads of cattle as they want, and go hunting whenever they want
to as long as they are on their property. The Laws in the Netherlandsare more restricted than the
laws in America. In America, almost anyone can own a firearm and go hunting and not have to
really worry about anything. The only thing they have to worry about is getting a hunter s
education card and then get hunting tags for the animal they plan on hunting. In the Netherlands, it

Having a dairy in America is pretty easy but can also be hard because of the weather and the
wild animals killing their cows. However having dairy in Holland is hard because they have
limited land usage, there are so many people in Holland that it is hard to expand the dairy and
most dairy s in Holland only have around three hundred to five hundred head of milk cows
because they run out of room. In America, if they have a dairy they can start out small and go as
big as they want to for as long as they want to. The only thing they have to worry about is the
neighbors because sometimes they will complain about the smell and tell them to move because
they were here first. The milk cows in Holland give a lot more milk because of the weather, most
of the time it is chilly or around seventy five degrees and the cows are not stressed out so they
give more milk. In America, the milk cows do not give as much milk during the summer as they do
in the winter because of the temperature change also they get stressed out when the temperature is

Lacrosse And The Lacrosse Community
It is the first Sunday of September: and for many, it s just a typical Sunday evening, people go
about their normal Sunday activities like going to church, watching football, and enjoying time
with their family. The first Sunday of September means a new beginning for the coaches and
players of Marvin Ridge High School lacrosse. This Sunday is the beginning of their road to a
hopefully successful season and the return to Cary, North Carolina to redeem themselves for the
past two failed attempts to achieve greatness and hold up the State Championship trophy.
Lacrosse isn t just a hobby or a school sport to the players and coaches, it s a passion that drives
them to get up every morning and want to be able to make it back to Cary. Coach John Delucia is
well known in the lacrosse community for his prestigious achievements from previous teams he has
coached and his amazing lacrosse career at Ohio State University.

Assess Sociological Explanations of Changes in the Status...
Childhood is socially construted, this means it is only a human concept and the only reason that
childhood exists is because society makes it that way. Over time childhood has changed as
different norms and values over each century of life have been different and is still changing at
present. Also in different places of the world there are different cultures and ethics so therefore
their veiw of childhoodwill also be different. As Wagg (1992) states Childhood is socially

Neglect and abuse towards children still occurs in society today as it did in pre industrial times.
Adult control over children can take the extreme form of physical neglect, or physical, sexual, or
emotional abuse. Some may say due to figures from charities such as Child Line rising there is a
dark side to family life, where children are victims. This shows in some cases the status of children
hasn t changed over time.
Childhood has changed more in other ways such as parents have more control over children s
space as there is increasingly close surveillance over children in public spaces such as shopping
centre s, especially in times when they should be in school. However in contrast to this Katz
(1993) describes how rural Sudanese children roam freely both within the village and several
kilometers outside it. This shows that changes can still occur but not in some places of the world.
Adults in today s society also can control children s daily routines, for example when they get up,
go to bed, have breakfast, etc. Whereas in historical times this wouldn t have been an issue.
Adults exercise enormous control over children s bodies including how they sit, walk, and run,
what they wear, hairstyles etc. whereas in some non industrial cultures this may not be an issue,
and therefore giving children more freedom.
Some sociologists such as Postman (1994) argue that childhood is disappearing at a dazzling speed
as he says by giving children the

Motion Down an Incline Essay
Lab 1, problem 3: Motion Down an Incline

Physics 1301W, professor: Dr. Zudov, TA: David
Abstract
The processes of a cart rolling up and returning back along a track were recorded, and the processes
(motion of the cart.) were described as equations. Also, we calculated the accelerations of every
stage (aup, adown and ahighest). Then the relationship among aup, adown and ahighest was
concluded. Finally, the acceleration was measured and was proved from data.
Introduction
If there is a car launched from the bottom of an incline and it goes up until reaching the highest
point, then it reverses its direction. To ensure the safety under this circumstance, the accelerations
of every stage need to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the net force of the block was mg*sinОё and pointed down along the track.
The free body diagram is as following:
Since no friction acted on cart, aup=adown=ahighest= g*sinОё.
Procedure:
The thickness of two blocks together (H) was measured, and the length of the track (L) was
recorded. Then the two wood blocks were put on the desk, and one end of the track was set on
the blocks to make the incline. Meanwhile, the angle between the track and the desk, Оё, was
calculated (technically, sinОё was measured according to sinОё=H/L). Next, we marked 30cm
on the one side of the track by using tapes, which was applied to determine the distance in the
Motion Lab VideoRECOREDER. After that, the distance and height of the camera was adjusted
to a proper position to make sure record the motion well. According to the video effect from
computer, the best position for observation was about 40cm height above the desk, and 80cm
away from the track. Then we put the cart with the compressed spring on the lower end of the
track. After that, we fixed the track in case that the track would move or vibrate when the cart
started. Then the spring of the cart was released and the time was recorded simultaneously. After
the cart returned back, before it collided the end of the track, we then stopped it and finished
recording. Next, the data

Essay on Jazz
Early Jazz
The earliest easily available jazz recordings are from the 1920 s and early 1930 s. Trumpet
player and vocalist Louis Armstrong ( quot;Pops quot;, quot;Satchmo quot;) was by far the most
important figure of this period. He played with groups called the Hot Five and the Hot Seven;
any recordings you can find of these groups are recommended. The style of these groups, and
many others of the period, is often referred to as New Orleans jazz or Dixieland. It is characterized
by collective improvisation, in which all performers simultaneously play improvised melodic lines
within the harmonic structure of the tune. Louis, as a singer, is credited with the invention of scat,
in which the vocalist makes up nonsense syllables to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There were also some important small group swing recordings during the 1930 s and 1940 s.
These differed from earlier small groups in that these featured very little collective improvisation.
This music emphasized the individual soloist. Goodman, Ellington, and Basie recorded often in
these small group settings. Major saxophonists of the era include Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves,
Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. Trumpet players include Roy Eldridge, Harry
quot;Sweets quot; Edison, Cootie Williams, and Charlie Shavers. Pianists include Ellington, Basie,
Teddy Wilson, Erroll Garner, and Oscar Peterson; guitarists include Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis,
Barney Kessell, and Django Reinhardt; vibraphonists include Lionel Hampton; bassists include
Jimmy Blanton, Walter Page, and Slam Stewart; drummers include Jo Jones and Sam Woodyard.
Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald were important singers in this era. Most of
these musicians recorded in small groups as well as with big bands. The styles of these musicians
can best be summarized by saying they concentrated primarily on playing melodically, on the swing
feel, and on the development of an individual sound. The blues was, as in many other styles, an
important element of this music.
Bebop
The birth of bebop in the 1940 s is often considered to mark the beginning of modern jazz. This
style grew directly out of the small swing

  • 2. The Characteristics Of Hidden Illnesses Hidden Illnesses Tayden Kayli Hansen Dixie High/ Dixie State University 5B Hidden Illnesses Depression, anxiety, personality, eating, trauma related, and substance abuse disorders are only a small amount of mental illnesses that are known to man. Each disorder differs from one another and none are alike when helping the affected to be cured. Many illnesses are hidden from the public completely unnoticed while others are easy to spot. Mental illness is a condition changing the way the patient thinks, behaves, and functions. A ballerina named Rosie may appear to be perfectly graceful and no different than any other as she twirls and leaps across the floor. Many see her elegance as her turns are spotted to perfection. Rosie finishes her dance and heads into the locker room, the passion and joy she felt a few seconds ago on the stage vanishes. She stresses over the mistakes made worried for the judges seeing the imperfect sickle of her footing or the misplacement of the arms. She throws these feelings or anxiety aside for the thoughts may ruin her passion. Rosie arrives home, dinner cooked for her celebration of her dance competition. She refuses to eat. A concerned look appears on her mother s face, curious as to why she will not eat. Rosie expresses how she is just too tired and heads to bed, but she appreciates the gesture. This example may appear to just be a simple day for Rosie, but what isn t noticed is the fact that as Rosie lays in bed, she is intentionally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Salt Concentration Experiment This experiment is a planned intervention, which will analyze the effects of the defined variable, salt. During the course of this experiment, tests are conducted regarding the effects of changing salt concentration on the regeneration of brain cells in Alzheimer s patients. During the course of this experiment, variables are considered. First, the independent variable, in this case, the level of salt content within the capacity of the brain, is exposed to conditions that are altered. After its exposure, the experimenter will document the changes. In addition, the dependent variable, in this case, the rate that the Alzheimer s disease regenerates its cells, is modified because of the changes within the independent variable. Consequently, the dependent variable will reveal the results of the experiment because it isolates the effects of a single condition.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this experiment, the controls are the conditions that include everything except the salt level. Conditions include environmental conditions such as the room temperature, light exposure, water, the items used to measure of the store the substances during testing, and any other elements or otherwise materials added to the variables including, but not limited to other added fluids. Moreover, the control area will include an area in which the brain cells are removed and /or tested. • 5. Conspiracy Theories Of The Rugrats Jezabel Hernandez Thursday: 8am 12noon Conspiracy theory Midterm Paper Rugrats The topic I chose for my paper is about the conspiracy theory about the show in 90s called Rugrats. The Rugrats premiered on August 11, 1991 and it ended in June 4, 2004. The names of the creators of Rugrats are Arlene Klasky, and Gabor Csupo. In the show of the Rugrat s, one of the babies in show named Tommy. Tommy has parents named Didi and Stu Pickles are based on the creators. In the show there a bully known as Angelica, she based on memory of Paul s the producer of Rugrats, of his childhood bully. Each person that made a impact on there lives have such influence on them, they made characters that are based on there actions. Angelica is a bully, yet you come to understand her crazy ideas and outcomes toward the other characters in Rugrats. With these characters in Rugrats in mind, you can t help but feel a connection to them. The conspiracy theory I found is darker twist in realm of Rugrats. In this theory is based on character Angelica imaginations. Apparently Angelica was not only having all Rugrats in her head but she is a paranoid schizophrenic(loses based of reality). Chuckie died along with his mother, that the reason why chuckie s father Chaz is a wreak and tends breakdown with his nerves over whelming him. • 6. Wonder Woman 15 October 2014 Wonder Woman Children always looking for a positive role model to have, and many end up choosing superheroes they see in their favorite comic books or ones they have seen in the media. Since children are so easily affected by things they see in their childhood, having discriminatory elements in these influential characters may be problematic. The Wonder Woman Precedent: Female (Super) Heroism on Trial written by Julie D. O Reilly, was published in the Journal of American Culture in 2005. O Reilly is a professor of communication and women and gender at Heidelberg University. In The Wonder Woman Precedent , she writes about the hardships that female superheroes in the media must face that male superheroes do not go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not believe so because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics. Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed to be equal to her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy enough to become a superhero through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into her title; she had to earn it unlike all the male superheroes that came before and after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had to compete in a series of extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a final life or death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes have. For instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark Kent s choice to fight crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to prove his abilities to a higher authority in order to become a superhero. He simply chose to wear a cape and enforce justice. O Reilly explains, ...The resolution of heroic trials, in their various forms, differs significantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The World Of World War 2 World War 2 was one of the most catastrophic events in human history. With millions dying in very few years, the destruction has left a scar on nations that is still visible in the present day. One of the most terrifying nations back during the days of war was Japan. Their culture promoted war, fighting, and being as ruthless as possible, causing them to be an extreme threat to world peace. The military looked into ancient myths about the Japanese, and the Emperor in particular, as they were said to be directly related to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The nation and military of Japan wanted to bring racial and spiritual purity into the world, and as Laurence Rees put it, The Japanese had been brainwashed for centuries . The war in the Japanese front took longer to end, and many speculate that if the United States had not created the atom bomb, the war in Asia would have lasted many more years. The answers for this prolongation is rooted deep in Japanese culture and history. There are many strange examples and acts from the Japanese military during World War 2. For example, not a single soldier would ever surrender as POW. Due to rules by the military and the indoctrination of beliefs, soldiers would refuse to accept defeat. This had roots in the government as well, and the Emperor of Japan along with the rest of the government refused surrender even when defeat was apparent. The interpretation of Japanese social, military, and historical culture caused individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Communication Theories And Concepts Of The Film Outsourced When talking about communication, it is essential to understand what this term really means. There are many different definitions pertaining to this word, but none of them can be considered right or wrong. On the other hand, Samovar and Porter suggested one of the most basic and influential definitions: communicationis the ability to share our ideas and feelings (Samovar and Porter, 1995, p. 27). Mr. Todd s journey in the film Outsourced greatly reflects on a wide variety of communication theories and concepts, as well as my personal experience in the same country, India. When referring to communication, it is fundamental to grasp The Shannon and Weaver Model that was invented in 1947. This is basically an exemplary of a few stages in which the information source called sender, sends the information to its destination, the receiver. Information obviously does not get to the receiver magically; this is why this model was invented. It is a way to illustrate how a person shares beliefs and ideas, and how they reach their destination. For example, at the beginning of the movie Outsourced, the employee called Todd Anderson asks his boss named Dave: Is this gonna take a while? when he was called to privately speak inside his office (Jeffcoat, 2006, 1:26). In this case, the sender is Dave who sends the information through a place called channel, which then gets decoded before reaching its destination, Todd. On the other hand, it is also important to underline the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Representation Of Interracial Relationships In the multi cultural society that we live in today, relationships from all different cultures are welcomed. The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the unfortunate years of slavery. Where the mixing of white and black was a taboo, but still carried out by the white slave masters on their black maids/ slaves. In this essay I will be looking at the representation of interracial relationships and how these relationships have been portrayed in cinema from 1903 up until present. I will be discussing the how miscegenation has been represented to audiences over the years as a problem, and something that is unnatural. It was this filmed that sparked the 1927 production code, which was called the Don t and Be Carful s. This production code was a guideline for professionals in the industry, on what was not to be depicted on the screens for audience to watch. The representation of miscegenation was strictly prohibited from the years 1930 1956. This production code was a reflection of the views that were held in society at the time. As cinema is often a reflection of society, miscegenation when it is present in films is often if not always represented to the audience as problematic. The relationships start off great but have a hard time progressing to anything further as, each side has to deal with problems that they cannot relate to, or has issues addressing with their partners. These as these were the views of society at the time, the view that these interracial relationship wouldn t work and were unnatural were projected on our screens to further reinforce the message to the audience. Miscegenation was first shown on screens in 1903, in the film What happened in the tunnel? . Unusually the interracial relationship is not represented in its typical form. • 10. The Sacred Ritual Of Marriage Rituals can be described as an outward expression of inward intention (Rituals, Rites and Festivals, n.d.). Rituals have a prominent role in today s society as they enable people of all religions to communicate and form a stronger connection with their God or Gods (Rituals, Rites and Festivals, n.d.). Over the years rituals have evolved because society s values have changed and modern culture has had an influence on them. The sacred ritual of marriage in Catholic Christianity and Hinduism, while superficially different, are essentially the same. This is particularly evident when analysing similarities and differences in each faith s perception of the purpose of marriage, the structure of the two weddingceremonies, the symbols involved in the two ceremonies, and the role of family in the Catholic and Hindu weddingceremony. An area of similarity within Catholic weddings and Hindu weddings is the purpose of marriage. Both Catholicism and Hinduism represent the purpose of marriage through their sacred texts and traditional ideas. In Catholicism the sacrament of Marriage is represented as a sacred bond between a man and a woman that pledges them to be faithful lifelong spouses, loving and caring for each other and lovingly raising and guiding the children they bring into the world (Stoutzenberger, 2000). The emphasis that is placed on having children is seen in the Bible when God says to Adam and Eve, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 1:28). Similarly the ... We should not see the ghostly presence inside Grace in exclusively negative terms: as a demon to be exorcised, a disorder to be cured. We should also see it as a survival strategy. The person talking through Grace s mouth during the hypnosis scene quite literally defends and protects Grace when she tells the audience that Grace is not guilty of the murders because she knew nothing about them. This person also enables Grace to insulate her mindagainst the memory of traumatic experiences, and provides her with an outlet for her feelings of jealousy and rage, primarily against Nancy, that Grace more or less represses in her own person. Moreover, the Mary inside Grace turns the tables on the male victimizers with the help of her host s body. Grace can maintain her own sanity and identity only at the cost of splitting in two, of relegating some of her memories and actions to a second person, who turns out to be a murderer. This person, intruding ghost or self created alter, is alias Grace ; she is the same woman as Grace Marks in the sense that she shares some of the experiences and motives of the latter, and she is a different person in the sense that Grace Marks is not aware of her (Niederhoff 79). I also agree with Niederhoff s viewpoint. The notion that Grace is possessed for the purpose of protecting herself relates to Grace s wish of her mother to do so. I was expecting to be correct in the assumption in the case of debit card holders having to make less visits to ATM machines than non debit card holders, but I was also prepared to be proven wrong in the same scenario should the study and information we discovered shed light on the other side of the argument in this case. Reasoning out the hypothesis statement that people with debit cards would automatically no longer need to make as many trips to ATM machines does seem to be the logical deduction, as it only makes sense that a person who can then have access to his account and able to make withdrawals from any location that can accept debit cards would then have little need to go directly to his or her banks own ATM machine. On the other hand, what may make sense does not always happen to be what occurs, and so we were ready to put our hypothesis to the test to prove our reasoning and confirm or refute our case. From the information gathered and the studies we researched, I was quite pleased at the results I had found. In nearly every case in which I was able to document and verify that the data came from a trusted source, I was discovering a near two to one ATM visitation rate between non debit card holders and those that did possess debit cards. Released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2012, the film was produced by Tim Burton and Allison Abbate. Frankenweenie is a rendition of the 1818 novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The original story of Frankenstein focuses on Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a sapient, grotesque creature by utilizing the power of electricity; the story also highlights the repercussions that follow his unorthodox scientific experiment. In Frankenweenie, Burton incorporates the main components of Shelley s novel in the plot. Burton s interpretation of Frankenstein drastically simplifies the relationship between creator and creature from a complex hate love relationship to one of simple, devoted friendship. This simplification in the film of Frankenweenie enables young viewers to comprehend the storyline more so than if a intricate relationship were presented. The result of the oversimplification is the inability for audiences to recognize the theme of nature versus nurture intended by Shelley in the dated novel of Frankenstein. This essay will focus on the realization of the differences in the relationship between Frankenstein and his creation portrayed in Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein and Tim Burton s film Frankenweenie; in addition, the analysis will address how these differences affect the manner in which the theme of nurture versus nature is communicated to the audience. Otherwise known as Food Stamps, this program was aimed towards those battling food insecurity or hunger, and to assist them in purchasing food. This program has in fact helped to alleviate these problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity? Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps have been found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high consumption immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising, as when food is plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified for this program are essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family members in their home. The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly enough to provide a healthy diet by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30 percent of food stamp recipients would spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if they received cash instead of stamps. Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items, this can limit the families spending power. • 34. The Importance Of A Carbohydrate And Its Effect On Human Body Introduction A carbohydrate is consumed and used in our bodies by breaking it down, and making glucose. Glucose is a sugar that our body uses to give us energy. Carbohydrates generally provide us with fiber, vitamins and minerals. There are two kinds of carbohydrates: simple and complex. We get our simple carbohydrates from foods such as milk, lactose products, fruit, and sugar. Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, come from starches like cereal, bread, beans, potatoes, and starchy vegetables. The benedict test is used to indicate the reducing property of sugars. All simple sugars (glucose) are reducing sugars. They will react with a blue liquid called Benedict s solution to give a brick red color (positive). We can use this reaction to find out if a food or other substance contains a reducing sugar. The standard used for reducing sugar was glucose, and the control group was water. Polysaccharides are relatively complex carbohydrates. They are polymers made up of many monosaccharides joined together by glycoside bonds. They are therefore very large, often branched, macromolecules. They tend to be amorphous, insoluble in water, and have no sweet taste. Starches are glucose polymers in which glucopyranose units are bonded by alpha linkages. It is made up of a mixture of Amylose and Amylopectin. • 53. Assess Sociological Explanations of Changes in the Status... Childhood is socially construted, this means it is only a human concept and the only reason that childhood exists is because society makes it that way. Over time childhood has changed as different norms and values over each century of life have been different and is still changing at present. Also in different places of the world there are different cultures and ethics so therefore their veiw of childhoodwill also be different. As Wagg (1992) states Childhood is socially constructed. It is, in other words, what members of particular societies, at particular times, and in particular places, say it is. There is no single universal childhood, experienced by all. So, childhood isnt natural and should be distinguished from mere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neglect and abuse towards children still occurs in society today as it did in pre industrial times. Adult control over children can take the extreme form of physical neglect, or physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. Some may say due to figures from charities such as Child Line rising there is a dark side to family life, where children are victims. This shows in some cases the status of children hasn t changed over time. Childhood has changed more in other ways such as parents have more control over children s space as there is increasingly close surveillance over children in public spaces such as shopping centre s, especially in times when they should be in school. However in contrast to this Katz (1993) describes how rural Sudanese children roam freely both within the village and several kilometers outside it. This shows that changes can still occur but not in some places of the world. Adults in today s society also can control children s daily routines, for example when they get up, go to bed, have breakfast, etc. Whereas in historical times this wouldn t have been an issue. Adults exercise enormous control over children s bodies including how they sit, walk, and run, what they wear, hairstyles etc. whereas in some non industrial cultures this may not be an issue, and therefore giving children more freedom. Some sociologists such as Postman (1994) argue that childhood is disappearing at a dazzling speed as he says by giving children the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Motion Down an Incline Essay Lab 1, problem 3: Motion Down an Incline Shaoren Yuan October 5, 2013 Physics 1301W, professor: Dr. Zudov, TA: David Abstract The processes of a cart rolling up and returning back along a track were recorded, and the processes (motion of the cart.) were described as equations. Also, we calculated the accelerations of every stage (aup, adown and ahighest). Then the relationship among aup, adown and ahighest was concluded. Finally, the acceleration was measured and was proved from data. Introduction If there is a car launched from the bottom of an incline and it goes up until reaching the highest point, then it reverses its direction. To ensure the safety under this circumstance, the accelerations of every stage need to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the net force of the block was mg*sinОё and pointed down along the track. The free body diagram is as following: Since no friction acted on cart, aup=adown=ahighest= g*sinОё. Procedure: The thickness of two blocks together (H) was measured, and the length of the track (L) was recorded. Then the two wood blocks were put on the desk, and one end of the track was set on the blocks to make the incline. Meanwhile, the angle between the track and the desk, Оё, was calculated (technically, sinОё was measured according to sinОё=H/L). Next, we marked 30cm on the one side of the track by using tapes, which was applied to determine the distance in the Motion Lab VideoRECOREDER. After that, the distance and height of the camera was adjusted to a proper position to make sure record the motion well. According to the video effect from computer, the best position for observation was about 40cm height above the desk, and 80cm away from the track. Then we put the cart with the compressed spring on the lower end of the track. After that, we fixed the track in case that the track would move or vibrate when the cart started. Then the spring of the cart was released and the time was recorded simultaneously. After the cart returned back, before it collided the end of the track, we then stopped it and finished recording. Next, the data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Essay on Jazz Early Jazz The earliest easily available jazz recordings are from the 1920 s and early 1930 s. Trumpet player and vocalist Louis Armstrong ( quot;Pops quot;, quot;Satchmo quot;) was by far the most important figure of this period. He played with groups called the Hot Five and the Hot Seven; any recordings you can find of these groups are recommended. The style of these groups, and many others of the period, is often referred to as New Orleans jazz or Dixieland. It is characterized by collective improvisation, in which all performers simultaneously play improvised melodic lines within the harmonic structure of the tune. Louis, as a singer, is credited with the invention of scat, in which the vocalist makes up nonsense syllables to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also some important small group swing recordings during the 1930 s and 1940 s. These differed from earlier small groups in that these featured very little collective improvisation. This music emphasized the individual soloist. Goodman, Ellington, and Basie recorded often in these small group settings. Major saxophonists of the era include Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. Trumpet players include Roy Eldridge, Harry quot;Sweets quot; Edison, Cootie Williams, and Charlie Shavers. Pianists include Ellington, Basie, Teddy Wilson, Erroll Garner, and Oscar Peterson; guitarists include Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessell, and Django Reinhardt; vibraphonists include Lionel Hampton; bassists include Jimmy Blanton, Walter Page, and Slam Stewart; drummers include Jo Jones and Sam Woodyard. Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald were important singers in this era. Most of these musicians recorded in small groups as well as with big bands. The styles of these musicians can best be summarized by saying they concentrated primarily on playing melodically, on the swing feel, and on the development of an individual sound. The blues was, as in many other styles, an important element of this music. Bebop The birth of bebop in the 1940 s is often considered to mark the beginning of modern jazz. This style grew directly out of the small swing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
