Collage & Montage
On this task we had five options in which we had to
design a collage with images that were either not
copyright or our own, I chose to do my own. The
option I went for was “dream time”
Harvard Referencing
In this lecture we refreshed what we
need to do in regards to referencing.
So we looked at.
CITING:- which is when we refer to
someone's idea or theory, for
example. Dave water etal says
drinking water is funky fresh.
LIST OF REFERNCES OR
BIBLIOGRAPHY:- we include this at
the back of our work where we
reference in full.
Semiotics, how did it start?
This is just a quick run over of the theory of semiotics before we
start looking at semiotics within images. Semiotics is simply
meaning. It looks at how we attach meaning to images, sound
etc. Ferdinand De Saussure is the inventor of semiotics (1857-
1913) he said language either written or visual are a system of
signs in which have two parts. Part 1 SIGNIFIER and part 2
SIGNIFIED. Signifier is the first thing we see which is anything
and everything. Signified is the meaning of that object we saw.
Then Roland Barthes (1915-1980) comes onto the scene and
spices it up with a bit of culture thrown in. instead of signifier
and signified he has changed it to CONNOTATION and
DENOTATION. It’s the same theory but gets more complex when
we bring our own cultural knowledge to the process. For
example my one would be, not walking on 3 grids as they are
bad luck but 2 is fine.
BAD LUCK!!
