The other think I talked with Tomas about is Bootstrappers Anonymous, which is a vision I had of a physical meetup where people without funding (myself included) could get feedback in a professional environment from their peers. I met Joe Mellin at a meetup where I mentioned this and he and I are running the meetup. The first meeting was last night, we had about 18 people, and used a playful approach (that joe thought of) using the idea of "testing a hypothesis" on the meetup group to determine what type of meetup it should be. Project Retrospectives are an important part of any software development process. The Principles Behind the Agile Manifesto state that, "At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective, then tunes and adjusts its behavior accordingly." How can this be done? By taking the time to reflect and learn and proactively determine what should be done differently in the next iteration, release, or project. Linda's presentation will introduce techniques for project retrospectives, whether they are agile or not. The techniques help teams discover what they’re doing well so that successful practices can continue and identify what should be done differently to improve performance. Retrospectives are not finger pointing or blaming sessions, but rather a highly effective process in which teams reflect on the past to become more productive in the future. Linda will share her experiences with leading retrospectives of several kinds for dozens of projects—successful and unsuccessful, small and large, in academia and industry. Her lessons learned can be applied to any project to enable teams and organizations to become learning organizations.

He started a peer mentoring group called Bootstrappers Anonymous that meets twice a month in person and twice a month online. The group uses a scrum-style approach to accountability where members take turns mentoring each other for 10 minutes each. Yankovich also recommends the website Last5.co to help quantify time spent and xFormative.org for additional support and information.

Padang & Co and The Pilot Project conducted a 3-hour Design Thinking session for 60 participants as a pre-session to the 2015 Clean & Green Hackathon for Singapore's National Environment Agency. The purpose was to help Singapore become a truly clean, zero waste nation by creating solutions to enable behavioral or mindset change regarding recycling and waste. The session introduced Design Thinking and provided a method for participants to observe issues, develop insights, and generate ideas. Participants then presented their top ideas. The Hackathon itself was held the following weekend where 25 teams developed solutions to the challenges of recycling and waste.
Bringing Innovation to Library Services
Libraries are continually developing new programs and services to meet the needs of their community. But designing for the future can be challenging. How do you identify where to make changes? How do you make changes without taking on too much risk? How do you measure and evaluate the success of new library programs and services?
This workshop is an interactive experience, guiding teams through a process to find solutions for real library challenges and problems. Participants work in teams and be guided through activities to identify innovative solutions, set goals, and manage risk. Activities will help participants develop design thinking skills and a growth mindset.
Participants walk away with basic principles of innovative design processes. Participants gain confidence and feel empowered to think about innovation and innovative ideas in their libraries. As a result, they will become better risk takers and be able to develop better solutions.

Too often though, on- and offline are treated as separate worlds, with little effort made to bridge the gap. Communities thrive when there is varied and ongoing interaction. Merging physical and non-physical conversations, events, and activities is one of the strongest tactics for building community in the real world.
