Violence against women has been a pervasive issue throughout history. Significant progress has been made since 1945 in raising awareness and addressing the problem through various initiatives. These include establishing international agreements promoting women's rights after World War II, increased attention to domestic violence as a social issue in the 1970s-1980s, and major global conferences in the 1990s that emphasized eliminating violence against women. While laws and policies have strengthened in many countries, violence against women remains a serious and deeply entrenched problem worldwide requiring continued efforts to achieve gender equality and empowerment for all.
