Overview
• Subgenre – Psychological Thriller
• Outline plot of sequence: Beginning – Sully is seen being help captive
by George. He is tied up in a dark room, with a spotlight on his face.
George is opposite him but his face is in the shadows. He emerges to
reveal his identity. Middle – George starts chanting a rhyme whilst
high school flash backs occur. He is seen being bullied by his peers
including Sully. As he chants he starts to cry but then gets angry and
throws a pile of paper onto the floor. End – George kills Sully, but
this is not shown on camera. Then a black screen appears which
shows the name of them film. George crosses Sully's face off a list and
then scrolls down on Facebook to look up the next victim.
Locations
• The locations of the film will be inside for the scenes with George when he is
taking revenge on the bullies. This scene will be done in Castlefield house
• For the flash backs of George's past, it will be in Reigate College to help
show the school atmosphere, certain flashbacks will happen in different
areas of the college, such as the refectory and some class rooms.
• We will not need any permissions to film out of the college but may just need
to check with teachers if we can use there classrooms, as well as making
sure we have permission from anyone in the backgrounds of the scenes.
Structure
• The first scene will be set in a room with Sully tied up and George sitting in
the shadows.
• The next scene is a flashback of George's school life when he got bullied by
Sully and others, whilst George recites his rhyme.
• The final scene is of when George finally kills Sully.
• The key dramatic moment is at the very end when George crosses Sully's
face of a list and then begins searching for his next victim on Facebook.
Representation: Character
The main characters of the film are:
• George: Bullied in his childhood, now wants to take revenge on the bullies
for what they did to him.
• Sully: Bullied George and is now one of George's victim
• There will also be other actors to help show George past, when he was
bullied and him when he was at school.
How?
• Genre Conventions – The genre conventions of a Psychological Thriller are
to create tension and excitement.
• Attracting Target Audience – We will attract our target audience by making
the film relevant and appropriate for the people in our TA.
• Mood Atmosphere creations – to create mood and atmosphere we will use
low key lighting to create an eerie and negative atmosphere. In the scene
were Sully is tied up we will have a strong spotlight on his face to create
dramatic shadows around him to also conceal George's identity.
How? Mise en scene
Setting:
Flashbacks are in the day at college and the rest of the film is at night.
Props:
Knife, Laptop, lamp, ducktape, School equipment (notepad, pen)
Lighting:
Low key lighting – moody effects and contrasting shadows
Costume/Makeup:
George: Casual clothing (flashbacks), All black outfit
Sully: casual clothing, bruising and blood on head when he is tied up.
Performance and proxemics:
George: Upset/sad, anger slowly builds up (flashbacks). Seems calm but on edge as anger builds up.
Sully: Happy, laughing, relaxed (flashbacks). Scared, nervous, Frustrated.
How? Camerawork
• Quick camera movements will be used in the film to build up tension and
panic and also allow the audience to feel the same emotions as the
character.
• Flashbacks are a convention of psychological thrillers as it shows what has
happened previously to give an insight into the characters past.
• Key shots will happen in the flashbacks was it will show what had
previously happened to George. As well as switching between the present
with close ups of George whilst he recites his rhyme, these close ups will
give a distorted view of George which will provoke fear in the audience.
Sound
• We will use a variety of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds in our film
opening.
• Diegetic sounds: voices of characters and sounds of objects in the scenes.
• Non-diegetic sounds: sounds added in whilst editing to create a dramatic feel
and music.
Post Production
• We will edit our film opening to fit the conventions of a Psychological
Thriller.
• As well as this we will add titles to the film to show industry information.
We will do this in a style used most by thrillers to create an eerie and moody
atmosphere.
Influences from research
• House at the end of the street: This influenced are film as it is about
someone who's past changes them and they become a sociopath because of it.
Gg
• A girl like her: This has influenced us on how we show scenes of George
being bullied, as we will film from the POV of George.
Pitch Feedback
Positive-
• People in our class liked our plot line and that it was clear and easy to
understand.
• The rhyme used in our film was said to make it different and stand out
• Our film opening sounds like it could be the beginning of a real film
• Our film influences were clear and relevant to our film
Improvements-
• How can we show that Georges mother was how he started using the rhyme
• How will we show the difference between the flashbacks and the hostage
scenes
• How will we show it is night/dark in the hostage scene
How to improve
• We will use a voiceover of a woman's voice whilst George is saying his rhyme
to suggest it is how he got he rhyme from his mother.
• The flashbacks an hostage scenes will be dramatically different due to the
different locations and drastic lighting. The hostage scenes will be very dark
and mysterious, whereas the flashbacks will be in daylight and have natural
lighting.
• To show that it is dark during the hostage scenes will use blackout curtains
and not have any light coming in through windows or doors, and use
artificial lighting in the form of a spotlight on Sully.

Presentation (2)

  • 2. Overview • Subgenre – Psychological Thriller • Outline plot of sequence: Beginning – Sully is seen being help captive by George. He is tied up in a dark room, with a spotlight on his face. George is opposite him but his face is in the shadows. He emerges to reveal his identity. Middle – George starts chanting a rhyme whilst high school flash backs occur. He is seen being bullied by his peers including Sully. As he chants he starts to cry but then gets angry and throws a pile of paper onto the floor. End – George kills Sully, but this is not shown on camera. Then a black screen appears which shows the name of them film. George crosses Sully's face off a list and then scrolls down on Facebook to look up the next victim.
  • 3. Locations • The locations of the film will be inside for the scenes with George when he is taking revenge on the bullies. This scene will be done in Castlefield house • For the flash backs of George's past, it will be in Reigate College to help show the school atmosphere, certain flashbacks will happen in different areas of the college, such as the refectory and some class rooms. • We will not need any permissions to film out of the college but may just need to check with teachers if we can use there classrooms, as well as making sure we have permission from anyone in the backgrounds of the scenes.
  • 4. Structure • The first scene will be set in a room with Sully tied up and George sitting in the shadows. • The next scene is a flashback of George's school life when he got bullied by Sully and others, whilst George recites his rhyme. • The final scene is of when George finally kills Sully. • The key dramatic moment is at the very end when George crosses Sully's face of a list and then begins searching for his next victim on Facebook.
  • 5. Representation: Character The main characters of the film are: • George: Bullied in his childhood, now wants to take revenge on the bullies for what they did to him. • Sully: Bullied George and is now one of George's victim • There will also be other actors to help show George past, when he was bullied and him when he was at school.
  • 6. How? • Genre Conventions – The genre conventions of a Psychological Thriller are to create tension and excitement. • Attracting Target Audience – We will attract our target audience by making the film relevant and appropriate for the people in our TA. • Mood Atmosphere creations – to create mood and atmosphere we will use low key lighting to create an eerie and negative atmosphere. In the scene were Sully is tied up we will have a strong spotlight on his face to create dramatic shadows around him to also conceal George's identity.
  • 7. How? Mise en scene Setting: Flashbacks are in the day at college and the rest of the film is at night. Props: Knife, Laptop, lamp, ducktape, School equipment (notepad, pen) Lighting: Low key lighting – moody effects and contrasting shadows Costume/Makeup: George: Casual clothing (flashbacks), All black outfit Sully: casual clothing, bruising and blood on head when he is tied up. Performance and proxemics: George: Upset/sad, anger slowly builds up (flashbacks). Seems calm but on edge as anger builds up. Sully: Happy, laughing, relaxed (flashbacks). Scared, nervous, Frustrated.
  • 8. How? Camerawork • Quick camera movements will be used in the film to build up tension and panic and also allow the audience to feel the same emotions as the character. • Flashbacks are a convention of psychological thrillers as it shows what has happened previously to give an insight into the characters past. • Key shots will happen in the flashbacks was it will show what had previously happened to George. As well as switching between the present with close ups of George whilst he recites his rhyme, these close ups will give a distorted view of George which will provoke fear in the audience.
  • 9. Sound • We will use a variety of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds in our film opening. • Diegetic sounds: voices of characters and sounds of objects in the scenes. • Non-diegetic sounds: sounds added in whilst editing to create a dramatic feel and music.
  • 10. Post Production • We will edit our film opening to fit the conventions of a Psychological Thriller. • As well as this we will add titles to the film to show industry information. We will do this in a style used most by thrillers to create an eerie and moody atmosphere.
  • 11. Influences from research • House at the end of the street: This influenced are film as it is about someone who's past changes them and they become a sociopath because of it. Gg • A girl like her: This has influenced us on how we show scenes of George being bullied, as we will film from the POV of George.
  • 12. Pitch Feedback Positive- • People in our class liked our plot line and that it was clear and easy to understand. • The rhyme used in our film was said to make it different and stand out • Our film opening sounds like it could be the beginning of a real film • Our film influences were clear and relevant to our film Improvements- • How can we show that Georges mother was how he started using the rhyme • How will we show the difference between the flashbacks and the hostage scenes • How will we show it is night/dark in the hostage scene
  • 13. How to improve • We will use a voiceover of a woman's voice whilst George is saying his rhyme to suggest it is how he got he rhyme from his mother. • The flashbacks an hostage scenes will be dramatically different due to the different locations and drastic lighting. The hostage scenes will be very dark and mysterious, whereas the flashbacks will be in daylight and have natural lighting. • To show that it is dark during the hostage scenes will use blackout curtains and not have any light coming in through windows or doors, and use artificial lighting in the form of a spotlight on Sully.
