Lusiana Arboleda describes optimism as one of her unique personality traits that will make her a valuable member of the IEU community. She believes optimism allows her to have a positive outlook, acknowledge mistakes to learn from them, and view failures as opportunities to improve. Optimists are motivated, treat others well, improve every aspect of their life, and express gratitude. Lusiana provides a personal example of applying optimism when her class was unprepared for a school project but she took initiative to purchase supplies and organize sales, which allowed the class to sell more products than others and have a successful outcome.

OPTIMISM

3. oBECAUSE:
oI have a positive outlook about myself, the future and the world
in general, constantly trying to salvage the best from each
situation.
oI am someone that chooses to emphasise the positive.
oI acknowledge my mistakes to learn from them.
oI would not call failure the end of the road, but rather another
opportunity to rise and start again with a better perspective of
the situation.

5. Why I consider
is one of the
most important
personality
traits?
Because:
 Optimistic people never give up, no matter the
situation they're put in.
 Optimistic people know that failure is when you stop
trying.
 Motivation is an aspect optimistic people have, as we
set ourselves in motion in spite of any obstacles, as this
will help us keep moving forward for a particular
purpose or goal.

6.  It is needed to treat other people similarly to how we
treat ourselves.
 It allows to forgive yourself for your mistakes and
errors, and assigning proper value to your
achievements.
 It helps to improve every aspect of your life and feel
proud and grateful of yourself, and the people that
surround you.
 It expresses gratitude for life. Optimists appreciate
things from blessings to very small things in life.

7. Optimism in a
personal
experience
 One day when my class (11th grade) and I needed to do a project
by selling products to the whole school in valentines day. I
remembered how everyone showed up, but none had anything to
sell, while the other class (10th grade) brought plenty of stuff to
sell.
 My class was hugely disappointed because 10th grade had better
products than we had, and people were buying them fast. In this
situation, I Firstly acknowledge that my class, including myself,
didn't, had the compromise to bring the appropriate amount of
products to sell, but then, I inmediatelly went to buy valentines
products, such as; roses, chocolates, etc…to sell them, by not
allowing ourselves to get behind the competition.

8.  When I came with the products, I told everyone that this was an
opportunity, not to stay still and see how others where doing the
job that was ours, but to sell the things that I bought at a lower
price so that people would be encouraged to buy more, as the
products where cheaper. Hence I gave an equally amount of
products to each one of my classmates for them to sell the
products more efficiently.
 We had sold everything, and everyone was happy because we
were able to get profits from it, and even sell more products that
tenth grade did.

9. What I learnt from
it, and how
optimism was
applied?
 I was optimistic
when:
 I looked at this problem as an opportunity to sell more, but not to
feel defeated nor sad. I also learned that when there is no leader in
a group people don't usually know what to do, hence the next time
I would arrange an organizational committee so that we could
delegate a particular responsibility to each one of my classmates,
so next time, we could do better at our sales, by improving our
group efficiency when engaging a project, in order to provide a
better economic boost.
