This initial document provides you with an opportunity to reflect on, review and summarise
your progress and achievements through the first 7 units of the qualification and what you
plan to create in your final project. Think about what you know now, and what it means to
you, compared with what you knew and could do before you started the course, and how
this has influenced your choice of pathway and your FMP.
Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
A non-existingfilm cover, alongwith a
promotionalposterandmerchandise etc.
Why have youdecided to makeit? I was deciding between a film cover and an album
cover andI chose a film cover because I have
already madean album cover andI wanted to
expandmy experiences andskills by makinga
productin a different genre of design.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
I enjoy watchingfilms andas a viewer and a
member of the target audience I am interested in
the designingof the coversand postersas thisis
how people get attracted to the film and make
them takenotice of it.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paperbased
activity)
There are many film cover designsthat have
influenced me, for example ‘Silence of the Lambs’
is a very famousdesign cover, with different
potentialmeanings in a well-designed yet fairly
simple cover.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
The effect I want onmy audience is for them to be
attracted to my product, makingthemwant to
see this film, after seeing the cover andthe poster
etc. I believe I will cause this effect by displaying
hiddenmeaningswithin my design butalso
creating somethingthat is interesting tolook at –
a design thatpeople would ‘hangupon their
wall’.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristics are
youemploying?]
At the momentmy idea is to create a cover from
the ‘horror’ film genre as I aminterested in this
genre myself. Throughthe use of PhotoshopI
want to create hiddenmeaningswithin my design
thatmakes the designlook eerie and brings some
fear to the audience (as it’s a horrorfilm).
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
I like the use of hiddenmeaningsand meanings
thatcan be interpreted in different waysin
professionalfilm cover designsand I want to
create this feeling I feel, when I see the
professionaldesigns, for my audience.
