This document summarizes the process of creating a magazine cover for a college publication. The original photo chosen depicted a realistic scene of a student enjoying a party. This photo was edited in Photoshop to enhance vibrancy and color. The final cover includes design elements like a masthead, headline, and barcode. Bold colored text was used for visibility against the bright edited photo. The various fonts and colors aim to make the cover eye-catching.
2. Production This is the original image that I chose for my college magazine. It is slightly different to the other school/college themed magazines I have shown in my research. I thought the other images were slightly false and posed, whereas I wanted to demonstrate a realistic and relatable view of a student having a good time. This photo was taken at a party, the ideal setting. I liked the original image, however I thought it would make it far more eye catching if I edited it in Photoshop. I altered, the saturation, contrast, exposure and hues, to enhance to vibrancy and colour.
3. This is the final front cover for my college magazine. I followed the main conventions of a magazine by having a masthead, headline, mode of address and barcode. I am pleased with the overall outcome, because I think it’s very eye catching and compels the reader to buy it. Due to my editing, the picture itself was very bright, therefore to layer text on top of it was quite difficult, as it wasn't that visible. To overcome this I ensured all of the text is in either a bright yellow or blue, or a bold black. I believe the different colours make the cover slightly more interesting, which is the same effect that the various fonts accomplish.
