RESEARCH. PRELIMINARY TASK.
For this college magazine we have a bold white title that looks as if it was cut out of the page. The image shows a positive portrayal of the word ‘EXIT’ as the model is seen to be smiling. It is clear it is a education based magazine due to the costume worn. The text is small and does not interrupt the image and the message it is trying to put across. Simple name of magazine, written in a block font which stands out to the reader. Text is clearly laid out, surrounding the model. Colour scheme is noticeable: red, blue and black. The green is not as important as that area of the image is blurred to increase the focus on the model. Barcode in right bottom corner so it does not disrupt the front cover.

EVALUATION.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I feel that my college magazine is similar to the real magazines that I researched in its simplicity and layout. The image dominates the page and the text surrounds it carefully with related information to the main image. The logo stands out and is in block capitals that are abbreviations of the selected college. How does your media product represent particular social groups? It represents the youth culture of today and portrays a ‘riot’ scene that is related to what has been going on in the social scene. It does, however, represent students in a negative way. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I think a smaller independent publisher would be most suitable for my magazine as it is mainly focused on the local area. Rather than a large media institution like IPC or Bauer. Who would be the audience for your media product? My target audience would be the student population as the content of the magazine fits what is going on in their surrounding culture. The most appropriate audience would be the college I have targeted, Henley College, as the information is specific to that college. How did you attract/address your audience? I attracted the audience by having a powerful image that is bright and causes intrigue. I have shown information on an upcoming party within the college that would be popular for the students to want to read about. The font is modern and appeals to my audience. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have used InDesign to create my publication and learnt how to use it through tutorials on the Internet by searching it on Google. Using Powerpoint I then uploaded my Preliminary Task, then onto Slideshare to be converted to a HTML and finally onto my Blogger account.
