3. Introduction
Practice management can be
defined as the organization ,
administration and direction of a
professional practice in a style
that facilitates quality client care
, efficient use of time and
personnel , reduced stress to
staff, and financial profitability.

4. PERSONNEL SYSTEM
 Consists of an assistant, receptionist house
keeping.
 The front office staff plays an important role
in the success of the practice. After all they are
the first point of contact that the patient
establishes with the practice.
The receptionist should be able to deal with
all kinds of patients.

5. Team should be professional,
personable, warm.
Dentist and team should continue
educational courses for continuous
training.
 Fair salaries and benefits are necessary
to avoid job dissatisfaction.

6. PATIENT SYSTEM
The dentist should have good
communication with his patients.
Timings, holidays, unavoidable
circumstances where the clinics have to be
closed, information should be given to the
patient.
Appointment books should be
maintained.

7. It is a good practice to open the clinic at least 30 mins before the first
appointment.
In case of children it is better not to have any hard and fast rule and parents
must be informed before any procedure to avoid misunderstanding.
 Fixed cost include staff salaries and benefits, Occupancy costs, administrative
costs, continuing education, taxes, insurance, repayment of finance.
 Variable costs include lab fees and dental supplies.

8. OPERATIONAL SYSTEM
The operational system
includes the following :-

•Ability of dental office to see patients.
•The way dentists plan and organize office ultimately decides
the ability to see patients.
•Capacity is determined by all the management decisions
dentists make in office.

11. Proper staffing
•Proper staffing is essential for smooth operation.
•Required staffs are chair side assistants ,receptionists, dental
operators ,hygienists, lab technicians e.t.c
•Incase of less staffs and operators dental practice may not be
able to meet the needs of patient and patient health may
suffer

12. Increasing patient visits
•Patient visits are the driving force of a profitable dental
practice.
•Marketing efforts both internal and external are a common
way of generating additional patients.
•These includes making more nontraditional hours available,
having flexible payment plans and increasing insurance plan
participation.

13. Daily scheduling
•Short meeting at the start of the working hours should be
scheduled for all the staffs to discuss the daily schedule to
eliminate the confusion and smooth operations.
•Dentists should be more flexible for off hours duties like
after 5p.m as those hours and Saturdays are lucrative and
have more patient flow.

14. Accounting for dental office
•It includes transaction history,
insurance billing and
documentation for patients.
•Receptionist informs the patient
about the cost of the treatment and
its duration and formulate a
treatment plan.
•In case of insurance billing the
payment is transferred to the
insurance agency through a
mailed paper or electrically
through the internet.
