Coping with Chaos - Digital Services in an Unpredictable Consumer LandscapeAndrew Lewis
For "We are Museums 2014", Warsaw, Poland
Looks at how rapid change in consumer technology makes service design extremely difficult. Consumer hardware changes, data is being produced by almost any activity we do and this is being communicated in many different ways.
This changes user behaviour and designing for users when you don't know how they live their lives is hard...
Thinking Holistically about Mobile-Responsive ServicesAndrew Lewis
A run through of simple concepts of responsive design and how these specifically apply to mobile-responsive services.
The idea that mobile technology affects social behaviour is explored and examples given of how this affects web service design for mobile phones.
The idea that mobile users are not distinct from desktop and tablet users, but often the same people at different times is considered.
To show how these simple concepts can be applied to usefully create mobile services, examples from live V&A mobile-responsive web designs are reviewed in terms of how they were planned based on how users behave. These include the main V&A website responsive display and the award-winning digital Explorer Map.

The role of the digital agency has changed. Buyers are researching and making buying decisions on their own, competitors are making a lot of noise across social media, and direct marketing has become less and less effective.
Companies need to help companies reach and educate their buyers to deliver high quality traffic and leads. Developing high quality inbound demand is the right strategy for companies and the most important new services companies can provide.

See the McDougall Interactive Strategy from our Search and Social Seminar. This is from 2011 so while some information seems outdated you would be surprised how much is still relevant.
Digital marketing is an umbrella term for the targeted, measurable, and interactive marketing of products or services. Reach and convert leads into customers and retain them.
Do you need to draw some bright lines between your social media presence and business results? Have you been asked to prove the ROI of social media? It's no longer a question of if you should measure the business results of your social media interactions, but what to measure—and how. A new generation of tools based on mathematical modeling and natural language processing make it easier to draw the connections, but harder to determine which of the over 300+ tools you should use. From building marketing funnels and goals, to more complex analytics such as multi-channel media measurement and first-click attribution, the choices are getting more complicated. This presentation looks at a practical framework to build a social media measurement strategy and plan.
This presentation was first given at the Marketing Profs B2B Forum in Boston on October 4th, 2012. It was updated for CARMA on November 13, 2012.

but they are getting less and less results as time goes by.
Why didn’t they try something different?
In fact, Yes, they did.
They started posting a lot of different ads, all over the internet.
Forums, Social Media, E-commerce Portals, Classified Ads.
Yes, they do get some response,
But they do not see how they can get their desired outcome,
Which is a clear path, a proven method to generate leads.
Does that sound familiar?
If you are in a similar situation, this course is for you.

Editor's Notes
Information scientist with 11 years managing projects and live digital services in museums and public libraries. BSc Cybernetics & Control Engineering, MSc Information and Library Studies, chartered librarian, makes stuff… Joined the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2008. Currently Digital Content Delivery Manager, previously Senior Web Content Manager. Projects – large-scale website redesign, content programme management, self-issue services, automated telephone renewal systems, public access computer services, online information, game development, SMART cards, multi-authority procurement and digitisation projects, etc. Third post change in 4 years. 4 office moves in last 8 months. Luckily I love learning.
Case study Describes what we went through. What we expected and predicted what we didn’t see coming what we decided upon and why what we learnt along the way This session offers practical hints and tips Based upon what really happened in small measurable projects that all uses Google Analytics to effect change. All examples have actually been tried and implemented on a live service at the V&A, by the Digital Media team. The projects described were all intended to improve the V&A’s digital offer in one way or another. They shared a common principle of having a predefined and measurable objective that is defined by data from analytics and that the collection method of that data is defined in advance to test predicted outcomes and to learn.
What’s in it for me? You’’ll be pleased to know that For most of this presentation I am going to tell you about things we have tried out for real I will be discussing a number of small scale attempts to use Google Analytics to get evidence to inform change. These do not involve you needing to have developer access to change the Analytics code I hope that you will all be able to take away some tactics from our experiences about ways you can approach evidence gathering Practical hints and tips from using Analytics in practice. I will describe one of these in detail, and show other applications of the same technique All examples have actually been tried within a live public service at the V&A, by the Digital Media team. What we expected and predicted what we didn’t see coming What worked What didn’t work and what we wished we had known first. BUT BEFORE WE GET TO THAT, WE FIRST NEED TO CONSIDER SOME BIG QUESTIONS
