Public relations (PR) is defined as the strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics. PR involves managing the spread of information between an individual/organization and the public. The modern practice of PR began in the early 20th century and definitions have evolved with changes in PR's roles and advances in technology, initially emphasizing publicity but now incorporating engagement and relationship building.
