4. When we have a guest, we tend to ask:
“Would you like something to drink?” and
leave our guests in confusion of what to
ask for.
Instead of asking such question, you can
be more specific and ask them:
“Can I offer you some ... ? (mention the
beverage: tea, Orange juice, Coke, etc.)
I have some bottles of Coke in the
fridge. Would you like one?
CULTURAL AWARENESS:
OFFERING
If your host ask you:
“Would you like something
to drink?”
You can say:
“I’ll just have a glass of
water”
Or
“Sure, what do you have?”
5. HOW TO OFFER HELP AND ASSISTANCE
OFFERING HELP OFFERING ASSISTANCE
Can I help you? Perhaps I could assist you with that.
Let me help you. Could I assist you in some way?
Do you need help? May I offer you assistance?
Would you like some help? What can I do for you?
Need help? Are you looking for something?
Be more specific by saying:
I’d be happy to type the letter for you.
If you don’t mind, I can type the letter for you.
Shall I type the letter for you?

DECLINING AN OFFER
May I offer you assistance?
That would be so kind.
Thank you.
It’s okay. I’ll handle it myself.
Need help? Yes, that would be great. No, thanks. I’ll be alright soon.
Are you looking for something?
Yes, where can I find canned
food?
No, it’s okay. Thanks.
If you like, I’ll type the letter for
you.
Oh really? Thanks a million. Thanks, but I can do it myself.
REMEMBER!
Always express your gratitude whether or not you accept the offer.
