•FLUID SYSTEM is defined as the device in which power
transmitted with the help of a fluid which which may be
liquid (water or oil) or a gas (air) under pressure .Most of
these devices are based on the principles of fluid statics and
fluid kinematics .
•DEVICES BASED ON FLUID SYSTEM :-
Hydraulic Accumulator
Hydraulic Intensifier
Hydraulic Ram
Hydraulic Lift
Hydraulic Crane
Accumulator Functions
Energy Storage
Stabilize Pump Pulsation
Stabilize Load Shocks
StoreVolumeUnderPressure
For High Volume Demands
Hydraulic Accumulator is a pressure storage reservoir in which a
non-compressible hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by an
external source. The external source can be a spring, a raised weight,
or a compressed gas.
HYDRAULIC INTENSIFIER
A device which is used to increase the
intensity of pressure of water by means of
hydraulic energy available from large
amount of water at a low pressure is called
the hydraulic intensifier.
Such a device is needed when the
hydraulic machines such as hydraulic press
requires at very high pressure which cannot
be obtained from the main supply directly.
HYDRAULLIC INTENSIFIER
HYDRAULIC RAM
The hydraulic ram is a pump which raises water
without any external power for its operation.
When large quantity of water is available at a
small height a small quantity of water can be
raised to a greater height with help of a hydraulic
ram.
It works on the principle of water hammer

• W=weight of water flowing per second into chamber
• W=weight of water raise per second
• h=height of water in supply tank above chamber
• H=height of water raised from chamber
Energy supply by tank to ram =W×h
Energy delivered by ram =w×H
Efficiency of hydraulic ram
η=energy delivered by ram/energy supplied to ram
=w×H/W×h

HYDRAULIC LIFT
• The hydraulic lift is a device used for carrying
passenger or goods from one floor to another
in multistoryed building.
• Types of hydraulic lift:-
• Direct acting hydraulic lift
• Suspended hydraulic lift
Direct acting hydraulic lift:- It consist of a ram
sliding in fix cylinder . At the top of sliding ram a cage is
fitted. The liquid under pressure flows into a fix cylinder.
The liquid exerts force on the sliding ram which moves
vertically up and thus raise the cage to the required height.
Suspended hydraulic lift:- It is a modified form
of direct acting hydraulic lift.
It is a device used for raising or
transferring heavy loads.
It can be used up to loads 2500 KN
It is widely used in loading and unloading
ships,workshopes, warehouses and dock
sidings.
