Narrative text
Narrative text is an imaginative story to entertain people
(sebuah teks imajinatif yang bertujuan untuk menghibur
orang/pembaca)
The purpose of the text /Tujuan text
a. To amuse ( untuk menghibur)
b. To entertaint (Untuk menghibur)
c. To teach us to have good character (mengajarkan kita untuk
mempunyai karakter yang baik)
d. To make us learn something from the story ( Untuk mengambil
pembelajaran/hikmah dari cerita)

Generic structure
Orientation
It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are
introduced.(berisi pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu terjadinya cerita (siapa

Where the problems in the story developed. (Permasalahan muncul / mulai
terjadi dan berkembang)
Resolution
Where the problems in the story is solved. (Masalah selesai, secara baik “happy
ending” ataupun buruk “bad ending”.)

lesson from the story. (Berisi moral value atau nilai moral cerita)

a. Fairy tales (Dongeng ) e.g Snow white, Cinderella, Beauty
and the beast etc.
b. Folktale (Cerita Rakyat) e.g Sangkuriang, Malin kundang
c. Fabel (Cerita binatang) e.g the ant and the dove, the ant
and the grasshopper
d. Legend (Legenda/ asal usul terjadinya sebuah tempat) e.g
the legend of banyuwangi , the legend of Toba lake etc.

Ant and Dove
An ant went to the river to get a drink. The water rushed so fast that he was washed off from the
bank into the river.
“l shall drown” he cried, “Help! Help!”, but his voice was so tiny that it couldn't be heard.
A dove was sitting on the tree hanging over the water. She saw the Ant struggling and quickly nipped
off a leaf and let it fall into the water. The ant climbed upon it and floated down the river until the
leaf was washed upon the bank of the river.
The ant called out in it's tiny voice, "Thank you, kind dove, you have saved my Life”, but of course the
dove couldn't near him.
Several days after ward, the dove was again sit-ting on the tree, a hunter crept carefully up to the
tree. His gun was pointed at the dove and he was about to shoot, when he was bit-ten in the leg by an
ant. he cried out with pain and dropped his gun. This frightened the dove, and she flew away, “Thank
you, kind ant" said the dove. The ant heard it and happy that he could help her.
