This document discusses the history of psychology in the Philippines and the origins of Filipino psychology. It notes that Filipino psychology began in the early 1900s under U.S. colonization when Filipino heroes criticized Western interpretations of Filipino behavior. In the 1960s-1970s, Filipino scholars advocated developing an approach based on Filipino experiences rather than Western frameworks. Virgilio Enriquez introduced the concept of Sikolohiyang Pilipino in the 1970s upon returning from the U.S. with colleagues Prospero Covar, Zeus Salazar, and Alfredo Lagmay to establish a psychology grounded in Filipino culture and perspectives.
