The Neighborhood of Sant
Ildefons
By: Paula Caravaca, Darío Peralvo and Eli Belinchón
Introduction:
-In 1950s: The number of inhabitants increased
-In the 60s, a new neighborhood called St. Ildefons appeared
-Sant Ildefons is a laboring and residential area
-There are a lot of small and high blocks of flats
-Before it was built, there were cereals, varied crops and acacias fields.
-The population consisted of people from other Spanish regions, especially
Andalucía.
Immigration
-In the last years our neighborhood received a “boost” of
immigration, especially from Morocco and South America.
A good example of the amount immigration can be seen just
looking at our high school classes:
1st grade of ESO
facilitiesoftheneighborhood
-Torre de la Miranda
-Ambulatorio (Health Centre)
- The civic centre
-The library
-The sports hall
-The market
LaTorredelaMiranda:
La Torre de la Miranda
(in English Miranda’s Tower)
was built by Arnau Mercader,
a count who lived in the
neighborhood in the 17th
century.
He ordered its construction
because he wanted to
observe birds.
Ambulatorio:
It’s the clinic of
the neighborhood.
Theciviccentre
It is the place where people go to do activities, to attend
conferences… It is a place where people make social life.
Thelibrary:
It is the
newest library
of the city. It
has an
auditorium,
too. People go
there to do
homework, read,
or maybe relax.
Thesportshall: It is where people do
physical activities
(football, basketball, go
dancing…)
On the top of this
building, there is a
block of flats.
Themarket:
This market is one of the best markets which are in the town
of Cornellà. People normally go there to buy food (meat,
fish, vegetables, etc.)
Thanks for your attention.
We hope you enjoyed it!
