India is the third largest producer and fourth largest consumer of electricity in the world, with installed power capacity reaching 334.4 GW as of January 2018. The government targets adding around 100 GW of capacity under the 13th Five-Year Plan from 2017-2022. Wind and solar power are estimated to contribute 60 GW and 100 GW respectively by 2022 to meet the target of 175 GW for renewable energy by then. FDI up to 100% is allowed in the power sector and renewable energy segment under the automatic route, helping boost investments in India's power industry.
