India has a total installed power capacity of 395.07 GW as of January 2022. The country is the third largest producer and second largest consumer of electricity globally. Renewable energy accounts for 38.56% of total installed capacity, led by solar and wind. The government has implemented various policies and schemes to boost electrification and achieve 100% household electrification. Significant investments are being made in the power sector to meet growing demand and expand generation capacity through both conventional and non-conventional sources.
