India is the third largest producer and third largest consumer of electricity globally. The government aims to add around 100 GW of capacity under its 13th Five-Year Plan through large-scale expansion plans. Renewables are growing robustly, with wind and solar targets of 60 GW and 100 GW respectively by 2022. The overall renewable energy target has been increased to 175 GW by 2022. FDI of up to 100% is allowed in the power sector, creating a favorable policy environment for growth.
