Power electronics is the application of solid-state electronics for the control and conversion of electric power. It involves the application of various semiconductor devices like diodes, thyristors, BJTs, MOSFETs, and IGBTs for switching, controlling, and conditioning electric power. Power electronics is used in a variety of applications including renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, power supplies for computers and consumer electronics, motor controls, and high voltage direct current power transmission.
