enough money to meet basic
needs including food, clothing
and shelter.

4. Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of
shelter. Poverty is being sick and not
being able to see a doctor. Poverty is
not having access to school and not
knowing how to read. Poverty is not
having a job, is fear for the future,
living one day at a time.

5. Two Ways of Poverty
Absolute Poverty
• Absolute poverty refers to a situation which individuals are
unable to attendant necessities of life.eg: food, cloth,
shelter, safe drinking water, health facilities, primary
education.
Relative Poverty
• Relative poverty is the situation in which a person has
enough income to sustain the life but the income and living
standard is lower compared to rest of the community. It is
also the condition of less income in a country compare to
the worldwide income average income.

As many as 58.7 million people in
Pakistan are living in
multidimensional poverty with 46 per
cent of rural population and 18 per
cent of urban households falling
below the poverty line.

15. Measures to Remove Poverty
O Poverty can be removed by broking the vicious circle of
poverty.
O Control on inflation is compulsory to eliminate the
poverty.
O Government should provide more facilities to investors
to increase the investment to reduce the unemployment.
O Development of agriculture and industrial sector will
reduce the poverty in Pakistan.
O Government should make easy, more and in time
availability of various types of credits.
O Govt. should reduce the rate of tax and increase the
rate of capital formation.
O Govt. should allocate more funds for education to
increase the literacy rate.

17. Zakat
ALLAH has given a best system to reduce
the poverty and help the poor to get
independent source of income. The Zakat is
compulsory on the people who have the
money and they hold it for one year, they
are asked to pay 2.5% of their money to the
underserved and deprived people. Quran
says on many occasions to pay Zakat:
"And in their wealth there is due share for
the beggar and the deprived." [Al-Zariyat,
51:19].

18. Conclusion
O Poverty is not bad but to remain poor and
to accept poverty is really bad. In
Pakistan, poverty is increasing day by
day. Effective steps of government are
required to reduce it. Government should
provide credit facilities and use labour
intensives techniques of production to
reduce the poverty.
