What is poster…??
Posters is a placard
• Usually it is a large printed notice with pictures and implies a message
or an ideas.
• Poster is usually a large printed placard or announcement that is
often illustrated to advertise and publicizes something.
Goals of poster presentation:
• poster presentations are used in academia to promote and explain
the research work typically shown during conferences.
• Stimulate interest and discussion.
• Generate contacts.
Poster designing process..
• Formulate and articulate your ideas.
• Know about your target audience.
• What do you want to achieve with the poster.
Layout of poster:
• Try to create a visual sequence.
• No need to fill every inch. white space is good.
• Use two-three main colors.
• Be consistent e.g. use a single color for all headings.
• Determine logical sequence for materials.
• Organize materials in to sections.
• Give number to sections for making flow oblivious.
• Arrange material in to columns.
Poster contents..
• Title
• Author and affiliations.
• Introduction
• Methods
• Data and result
• Conclusions and feature work.
• References and acknowledgements.
Poster text..
• Keep it short and simple.
• Remove all non-essential information's.
• Attract visual attention and use graphics.
• Try for
o20 % text.
o40 % graphics.
o40 % empty space.
• Avoid italics
• Use bulleted points rather than graphics.
Poster title
• Make it interesting.
• Would be able to lure people from a distance.
• Should to easy to read from 10 feet distance.
• Title should not be too longer.
Colors to be used:
• Use one background color to unify poster.
• Stick to muted color
• Avoid red green combination.(as red green blindness is common).
• Don't overuse color and be consistent.
Graphics:
• Make large enough for viewing from at lest 3 feet away.
• Text should support the graphics
• Use heavier lines in tables and graphs for easier viewing.
How to present posters
• You will be able to give an overview of your work in 3-5 minutes.
• Don't stand directly in front of posters.
• Make eye contact with participants.
• Avoid jargons and acronyms.
• Speak slowly and clearly.
• Make a good opening that explain the main focus.
• You would be able summarize your conclusion and its importance.
• Don't assume that peoples are expert in your fields.
• Anticipate questions.
