I started editing my movie the day after shooting it using Adobe Premiere Pro. I removed two jump cuts by using dip to black video transitions. Combining clips was simple, so I then adjusted the color scheme and added a blue tint. I changed the aspect ratio to 2.35:1 for a more cinematic look. After including background music to add an ominous feel, I remembered to add the movie title before exporting. Finally, my masterpiece was complete after rendering in Premiere Pro.

It allows directors and other creators to visualize how to translate a written story into moving images before actual filming begins.

Low-key lighting is used in horror films to create tension through a mysterious and dark atmosphere with dim hues and shadows that only partially reveal characters and surroundings. Independent film studios fled Thomas Edison's trusts and lawsuits in New York in the early 20th century, relocating to Los Angeles for its sunny weather, inexpensive property, and varied locations. As the film industry flourished in LA, Hollywood became the center of movie production in the US, establishing the studio system to ensure quality and costs were controlled. Over time, major studios like MGM, Paramount, and Warner Bros led the Hollywood studio system, which grew to become the world's dominant film industry as European cinema struggled after World War I.
Film genres refer to specific styles or subject matters that classify films for reference purposes. While a film may contain elements of multiple genres, it is usually categorized under a single genre. Common film genres include drama, comedy, action/adventure, musical, and experimental. Including a film within a recognized genre helps potential viewers understand its subject matter and suitability. For example, describing a film as a Western signals that it will contain cowboys in 19th century America and include stock characters like sheriffs and villains.
Laura Mulvey developed the Male Gaze theory to describe how mainstream films typically show women as objects for the heterosexual male gaze. The theory argues that women are displayed for both the characters and spectators to look at, with the male emerging as the dominant figure. Mulvey believes this reflects an underlying power imbalance where the male gaze takes precedence over the female gaze. However, some disagree with aspects of the theory by arguing that some women enjoy attracting attention or that some media also objectify men.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
