What is Post Production? 2
The post production stages needed to create a horror film are:
Sound: Sound is a big part of horror films as it builds tension and creates atmosphere.
Non diegetic sound is also added into footage to create narrative so audiences can
understand the text.
Speeding Up/Slowing down: Speeding up or slowing down footage creates atmosphere
and makes audiences react as this usually builds tension suggesting to the audience
something bad is about to happen.
Cutting footage: Cutting unnecessary footage in post production keeps relevant things in
that are needed and takes out unwanted footage, this gives the film a professional finish
and saves time allowing them to fit more footage in. This can also help when speeding up
and slowing down footage.
Lighting: Lighting is a key convention used in horror films as it builds tension and creates
atmosphere.
