Spanish has two types of possessive adjectives: unstressed (short) forms and stressed (long) forms. The stressed forms are used for emphasis and express "of mine, of yours, etc." Stressed possessive adjectives agree with the noun they modify in gender and number and follow the noun, while unstressed forms precede the noun. A definite/indefinite article or demonstrative usually precedes a noun modified by a stressed possessive adjective. To avoid confusion with suyo/suya, use the construction "[article] + [noun] + de + [subject pronoun]." Possessive pronouns replace a noun + possessive adjective and have the same form as stressed adjectives, preceded by
