Portable Aircraft RVSM Monitoring
Solutions:
Commercial Enhanced Second Gen GPS
Monitoring Unit (E2GMU)
For RVSM Monitoring
2
What is RVSM?
• Reduced Vertical Separation
Minimum requirement
○ Reduced Vertical Separation between
aircraft from 2,000 feet to 1,000 ft
○ Airspace altitudes inclusive 29,000 ft –
41,000 ft
○ Benefits:
■ Increase capacity and fuel savings
• RVSM Aircraft regulation
○ Must be RVSM Approved to access alt
○ Must perform safety check height-
keeping performance test RVSM
Monitoring
3
RVSM Long-Term
• Long-Term RVSM Monitoring
○ All aircraft approved for RVSM must complete a re-occurring
RVSM monitoring flight check every 2 two-years or 1,000
flight hours (whichever term is greater)
4
US RVSM Monitoring Method 1
• Fly over AGHME site Aircraft Geometric Height
Measurement Element with MODE S equipment
5
US RVSM Monitoring Method 2
• Fly RVSM test flight with E2GMU onboard
6
RVSM Monitoring Flight Test
7
Typical RVSM Monitoring Test Flight
• 30 minutes minimum data recording time
○ Straight and Level at RVSM Alt (FL 290 – FL 410)
• Perform test during any:
○ Point to point flight that enters RVSM Alt
○ Cold Soak flight test before leaving FL 410
○ Simple out and back flight to same FBO (2 hours)
1. Take-off from FBO
2. Climb to RVSM
3. Record 20 minutes at RVSM OUT
4. Turn
5. Record 10 minutes at RVSM RETURN
6. Land at FBO
