- Today context of cross dressing
- Cross-dressing is the act of wearing items of clothing not commonly associated with one's
sex.
- How it is a popular culture
- Meanings of clothes
- Clothes are means for people to express themselves and an identity they wish to portray to the
world. The voice they endorse is reflected in their dressing.
- Form of power
- shows social class
Hegemony
- Heteronormative dressing has always been the proscribed by the dominant class, made it seem like a social norm.
- Hegemony theory is a negotiated concoction of the dominant and the subordinate class, commercial and authentic
- A negotiation to some people through various facets, they either indulge momentarily through activities like drag
performances, in the comfort of their homes or through daily activities that follows the general expectations but breaks
certain boundaries.

The lack of meaning or connection in consuming the products  or imitating  emulating the identity they wish to portray. However consumerism does not promote
a stable identity because the constant change in style and trends.

However consumerism does not promote a stable identity because the constant change in style and trends. - Commodification of sexuality - to profit off of people, what sells - Change in the meaning of being a man or a woman. Man - authoritative = suit, chains and structured clothing. Women - feminine, empowered = - Perpetuated by advertisements *find ads* Globalisation - Exchange of ideologies and beliefs Freedom of expression - western thinking, individualistic approach but Asians are more collective and calls for more unified front or “face” - Catalyst of change - Cross dressing as a vision that is ambiguous and pushes in an opposite direction.
