1. My first memory of eating in a restaurant is of a Chinese meal at Haiking in
Hyderabad in the early 1980s. Since that day, dining out has always been about
much more than the food one eats. It involves all five senses… and an elusory sixth element
without which even the most perfectly orchestrated experience can leave you cold.
It is my relentless curiosity for this sixth element, and the desire to create dining experiences
that are greater than the sum of their parts, that keeps me tied to the
world of food, drink and dining out.
2. BACKGROUND
My work experience over the past 19 years has been focused on the hospitality industry – in project
management, operations, and marketing communications – in Bombay and London.
The most challenging, and fulfilling projects have been those where I worked with dynamic, small teams in
start-ups (though these companies are anything but small today) including:
At AD Singh’s Just Desserts, as part of the project management team for Soul Fry, Soul Kadi,
The Bowling Company and Olive;
At Sula, to launch a premium Indian wine in a market that had so far only experienced expensive
international wines and low quality local table wine;
At HVS Executive Search, when we chose to produce a film instead of creating a corporate video that
later went on to win an award at the Cannes Corporate Film Festival.
At AETHOS Consulting Group, working with a team of hospitality veterans to launch a new global HR
consulting firm.
I have also worked with Grand Hyatt Mumbai’s pre-opening team and more recently for
The Zetter Group in London which owns The Zetter Hotel, The Zetter Townhouses in Marylebone and
Clerkenwell, Grain Store, and Grain Store Café & Bar at Gatwick Airport as their head of press and marketing.
3. SERVICES
Since July 2015 I have been working as an independent brand and marketing consultant for hospitality
operations in London and Bombay. An overview of my services include:
Concept research and development/brand audits
o Owners objectives, guest experience, menu development, market & trend analysis.
o 360 degree review of venue/s, local market conditions, competitive set, brand position and
aspirations, customer patterns, and identifying opportunities.
Concept implementation and launch
o Logo and identity, brand guidelines, marketing collateral, photography guidelines.
o Identify the PR Agency and direct the PR strategy for pre and post launch.
o Marketing and press campaign for launch and organisation of launch events.
Online strategy
o Devise a site map for the website, write content.
o Launch website and train in-house team on the CMS.
o Advise on the digital campaign including social media strategy, newsletters.
Ongoing support
o Advisory support for the in-house teams on brand communications and strategy.
o Act as in-house marketing lead for companies that are too small for full time marketing roles, or
don’t need full time in-house marketing persons.
o Write and implement an annual marketing plan.
