Pongamia pinnata is a hardy tree that needs minimal care, can extract water from 10 meters deep, does not compete with other crops, and grows anywhere from coastlines to hill slopes. It has the potential to yield pods from the 3rd year onwards, and by the 10th year each tree can produce an average of 160kg of seeds per year, maintaining this production level for its lifespan of 80 years.
