We started PMTCT in Cameroon with no prior experience or policies, beginning small with just two sites. Over time, we implemented strategies like partnerships between public and private organizations, group training, support groups, and using trained birth attendants to scale up services. These efforts led to increased sites and uptake of PMTCT services over the years. New strategies like testing in labor and delivery and partner testing further helped progress.

Six years on, our co-investments have enabled over 60 million people to access vital health and nutrition interventions.
As of December 2020, The Power of Nutrition has approved investments in 15 programmes across 12 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, representing a total co-investment portfolio worth $478 million.
Ensuring mothers are provided appropriate antenatal and delivery care, and offering the proper information and services for mothers to time and space their pregnancies are essential to building healthy families. World Vision will describe their work with religious leaders in Garba Tulla, Kenya to help pregnant moms thrive during their childbearing years.

THE CBC HEALTH BOARD One of 3 arms of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (Church, Education, and Health) Mission: The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board seeks to assist in the provision of care to all who need it as an expression of Christian love… Health services started 1938 as missionary activities; Health Board created in 1975 AIDS Care and Prevention Program created in 1999 First PMTCT provider in Cameroon (Feb 2000) 4

PROCEDURE FOLLOWED AT ANC 1stAntenatal Clinic - Group counseling by maternity/counselor staff, reviewing 4-5 routine antenatal lab tests (Hb, UA, Syphilis, + Blood Type, HIV) Interactive group discussion of HIV test: Emotional response if positive, how to disclose to spouse, potential of living many years if HIV+ if maintain healthy lifestyle and reduce exposure, availability of free NVP for PMTCT, opt-out strategy. Individual pretest counseling Rapid HIV testing on-site if consent, same day results Prenatal exam while awaiting for HIV test results Individual post-test counseling Information on mother’s NVP dose at onset of labor Emphasis on baby’s dose within 72 hours of life 16
