We are experiencing noteworthy progress in the work we are doing with the Minneapolis Police Activities League/MetroTransit Youth Outreach. The inner city youth in Minneapolis and Saint Paul Areas are in dire need for activities that aid in their development as well as keeping them out of harm’s way. These find institutions are eagerly striving to identify ways to meet these youths’ unmet needs for activities. We, at Mattson, are so excite, proud and motivated to find services to support them.
Read through this attachment and perhaps you too will be inspired to reach out to Minneapolis Police Activities League/MetroTransit Youth Outreach to support them, as well, we hope you will.

1. POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE
(SPORTS & MORE)
OPENING THE MINDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO THE WORLD
OF WILDERNESS CANOEING
Thanks to the perseverance of our loyal leaders and supporters, Officer Gwen DeGroff-
Gunter, Juvenile Outreach Coordinator, Metro Transit Police Department and Sergeant
David Stichter Police Activities League Minneapolis Police
Department we have been able to gain financial and operational
support needed to send PAL Youth to Northern Minnesota
Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA).
REI Outdoor Programs & Outreach through their Gear Bank
generous donated
supplies. Our Mattson
Team was able to secure
fifteen four person REI
InCamp Tents which
retail at $259 each as well as nineteen two
person REI InCamp Tents retailing at $199 for a
grand total of $7,666 in kind offering.
Our ongoing relationships with REI, the U.S.
Forest Service Eastern Region, Timberwolves
Facilities Project Management, the Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa, Voyageur
Outward Bound School, the Minneapolis Community Education and several other
outreach organizations. Garnering these relationships has provided the PAL Youth with
developmental experiences that will have life-long impact on changing their lives
significantly.
We have a splendid grant writing team who have been able to raise the seed dollars to
send our first round of PAL Youth into the BWCA. We’re confident that our pending grants
will provide for a vast number of additional young PAL member as the summer and fall
ensues.
2. THE AMAZING WORLD OF TENNIS
It should be duly noted that the efforts of the team of supporters are
working on activities that far exceed BWCA offering. Thanks to
talented people like Martin Beck, a
Mattson Team Player; Tony Stingley,
Director of Training & Outreach,
USTA Schools Tennis; Kelley Nelson, The
Fort Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center
along with several others who are reaching
out to work with PAL Youth over the summer. Work in tandem with
these outstanding providers of youth
development, we are confident that our PAL
Youth will find high caliber learning and physical fitness
experiences. Martin and the abled supporters have managed
to frame the tennis learning experiences into the academic
rubric of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and
Mathematics (STEAM). We are ever so eager to see how this
educational adaptation will work to strengthen youth learning.
THANKS TO THE BURGEONING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE
YMCA PAL YOUTH WILL FIND A NEW EXPERIENCE
Our committed guidance from Officer Marshall Collier, PAL Officer has allowed for the
development of YMCA scholarships to YMCA
powerful summer aquatics, and first aid
programs for kids (8-14 years
old). Partnering up with Marshall it was
possible to introduce the PAL Youth attending
the Cityview Summer School PAL Program
to the YMCA Camps both day camps and
overnight camps. The program begins July 1,
2016. Young people would learn First Aid and swimming/water safety. The sessions
would begin at 1:00 pm ending sometime after 3:00 pm.
The Cityview Summer School should be an absolute delight for the inner city
Minneapolis PAL Youth.
3. BROADENING THE HORIZONS OF OUR YOUTH
The relationships we are garnering spread beyond that of summer
camp, canoeing and swimming. Thanks to the broad service provisions
provided by the Voyageur Outward Bound School, our PAL Youth will
have exposure and learning far broader
than summer fun.
Our PAL Youth would be
provided opportunities to
explore the winter
extravaganza of Northern
Minnesota and dog sledging.
They would feel the wonders
of knowing and understanding the masterful talents of
trained canines who are passionate about pulling a sledge in
the snow.
Few of us have ever been exposed to such wonders, but
once you are made aware you never see the winter the
same, ever.
PAL Youth will know and understand what it means to be
aware and knowledgeable about survival and sustainable
life-styles that are introduced through these wonderful exposures.
Our PAL Young people will know what it means to snowshoe
portions of the Superior Hiking Trail. They will experience the
wonders of cutting through the snow and only knowing how they
are able to glide through the silky
white powder yet actually feeling
warm from the shear mental and
physical exertion.
The learning that comes from being
educated about how not to behave
and feeling confident in knowing
that the newly learned skills are not only life preserving about also
fun filled and exhilarating.
Our PAL Youth will find winter exciting and engaging. They
will want to know survival skills that makes them more
prepared for greater adventures.
Our friends at Outward Bound seem ever so delighted and
eager to assist in working with our youth. Please stay tuned
for so much more we will be bringing to the activities that
are burgeoning in the MinneapolisPAL & MetroTransit
Youth Activities League Programming.
