Eclipse Che - A Revolutionary IDE for Distributed & Mainframe DevelopmentDevOps.com
Eclipse Che introduces a new kind of developer tool that runs directly on Kubernetes and is accessible through a web-based IDE. The container architecture enables easy and rapid onboarding of new team members while eliminating workstation maintenance costs and limitations, all while leveraging a VS Code-like experience. The release of Che 7.0 by the open source community goes further by making the developer environment consistent, repeatable and reproducible. Now available for mainframe-based code with the Che4z subproject, teams can collaborate on cross-platform applications and bridge the distributed/mainframe divide.
The panel with discuss how the Eclipse Che IDE and workspace server drive developer productivity and improve overall software delivery.

These are the slides of the talk given during the Confoo 2012 conference.
For building an Android app from inside the IDE, Google provides with ADT, an Eclipse plugin to create emulators , compile your code, run the tests, package it and deploy it to a device.
Reading this presentation, you will learn how to all those steps in a "headless"way, outside the IDE, so that tools such as Jenkins / Hudson or even Travis-CI can build and test your applications.
Also, this presentation introduces to the reader the concept of Continuous Quality Control with Sonar and Continuous Deployment with Nexus : possible even for Android apps now !

AR-UX: The generation of the pervasive User ExperienceAlex Young
Over the past year Augmented Reality (AR) has been touted as the next big thing. This presentation is from UX Australia 2010 and looked at what real world challenges we need to consider and resolve in this space as well as how we introduce and enable this information to be inclusive and relevant across many contexts.
As devices and networks evolve we become more connected to time, objects and people. As interactions start becoming separated from traditional interfaces, what is the impact for us as the people who design these experiences? How do we deal with connections that are no longer necessarily presented in or triggered from environments that users can see and touch. How do we incorporate this into our design thinking and approach when those experiences may have very real impacts on the notion of self.
Business and IoT Economic Alchemy or Another Anticlimax - March 2016 - OSGi A...mfrancis
OSGi Alliance presentation at CeBIT IoT Summit from March 2016.
Presented by Dr Richard Nicholson.
From the Environment to Manufacturing, from the Consumer to Education, from Finance to Government, IoT has the potential to transform markets and businesses and almost everything we know today. However, to achieve this change, one must first be cognizant of, and then address, the business and engineering challenges posed by IoT. Business as usual in IT will not deliver the promises of IoT!
This talk will review the fundamental characteristics required for any pervasive IoT solution to achieve this transformation and discuss the central importance of an industry standard for software modularity. These will be compared and contrasted against some of the hot IT trends of the last decade. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the OSGi Alliance and its activities within the IoT, along with industry examples and some opportunities for you to take advantage or and get involved with OSGi.

8 Principles for Enabling Build/Measure/Learn: Lean Engineering in ActionBill Scott

This is a variation on previous lean engineering talks but focuses on 8 principles for enabling build/measure/learn.
Lean Engineering: How to make Engineering a full Lean UX partnerBill Scott
In 1999, PayPal's name was synonymous with innovation. In fact, the so called PayPal Mafia (original founders) went on to establish Tesla, SpaceX, YouTube, Skype and other startups. They also provided the early investments of many of the most innovative companies on the internet today. But over time that innovation slowed to a crawl.
In 2011 a number of things begin to come together for PayPal that started its journey back to innovation. This is the story of that reboot and how engineering has played a key role in partnering directly with product and design to move from a culture of products having a long shelf life, to one of rapid experimentation.
In this talk, Bill will outline the principles of Lean Engineering; principles for engineering that enable learning. Drawing from his experience leading User Interface Engineering at both Netflix & PayPal, Bill will walk you through the key principles your engineering team will need to adopt to be that enabler for product and design in your organization. This talk will not just inspire you, but it will also give you some hard earned advice on making this a reality in your organization.
