Outlines:
Introduction
● Most people know poisoning that it is a
disease that affects bodies through
several factors such as eating and
drinking.
● But the poisoning has of many types.
Definition:-
 Poisoning is injury or death due
to swallowing, inhaling, touching
or injecting various drugs,
chemicals, venoms or gases.
Or Any substance that can enter
the body and create a harmful
reaction in the body can be
described as a poison.
Types of poisons:
Poisons can be swallowed, absorbed through the skin,
injected, inhaled or splashed into the eyes. Ingested
Poisoning
Poisoning most often occurs by ingestion. Children
under 6 years account for over half of all poisonings.
Common
ingested
poisons?
1- An overdose of medicine
This can include both over-
the- counter medicines, such
as paracetamol, and
prescription medicines, such
as antidepressants.
2- Certain types of household chemicals and
pesticides
3- Poorly prepared or cooked food, and food
that's gone mouldy or been contaminated
with bacteria from raw meat (food poisoning)
4- Alcohol, if an excessive amount is
consumed over a short period of time
(alcohol poisoning)
signs and symptoms of ingested poisoning:
General
GIT
Neurological
Skin rashs or burns
Fever Abdominal pain
loss of appetite
Nausea and
vomiting
Diarrhea
Confusion & Irritability
Dizziness & Drowsiness
Double vision
Headache
Stupor
Coma
First aid for ingested poison:
1- Don’t give unconscious person anything by mouth
2- Try to neutralize the poison with lemon juice or vinegar
Or any other substance unless you are told to do by the
poison control center or a doctor .
3- If the person vomits , clear the persons airway .
wrap cloth around your fingers before cleaning out
the mouth and throat
Inhaled poisoning
occurs when a harmful
substance is breathed in.
Common inhaled poisons
include
1- carbon monoxide
2- natural gas
3- solvent fumes
4- chemical vapors.
Inhaled Poisoning:
signs and symptoms of inhaled poisoning:
general Fever
Respiratory
chest pain
Cardio vascular
Bluish lips
Neurological
Confusion & Irritability
Heart palpitations
Difficult breathing
Unusual breath odor
Dizness & Drowsiness
Double vision
Headache
Stupor
Seizures
Unconsciousness
First aid For inhalation poisoning:
1- Call for emergency help .
2- If it is safe to do so , rescue the person from the
danger Of the gas , fumes , smoke open windows
and doors to remove the fumes .
3- Person should take several deep breaths of
fresh air , and then hold breath as you go in .
First aid For inhalation poisoning:
4- Don’t light match or use lighter because some gases
can catchfire .
5- After rescuing the person from danger, check and
monitor the persons airway, breathing pulse . if
necessary, begin, rescue breathing and CPR.
6- If necessary, perform first aid for eye injuries or
convulsion first aid .
First aids of seizure:
Protect the person’s head from injury as a priority.
Protect the person from injury during the seizure.
Move objects away that he or she may bump into .
Do not restrain the person. Allow the seizure to take its
course.
If possible, roll the person onto his or her side to allow
saliva to drain from his or her mouth.
Do not put anything in the person’s mouth, including
finger. There is no danger of the tongue being swallowed
Activate EMS if the person does or experiences any of the following:
Is injured or vomits during the seizure.
Has no history of seizure.
Has multiple seizures or continues to seize for
more than 5 minutes.
Most seizures last only a short time
and stop without any special treatment.
Once stopped, place the person in the recovery
position to protect the airway.
